You’d think with all the delays that Sega would just cancel developing Phantasy Star Online Version 2 for the West. But according to a story on Gamespot, the Dreamcast online RPG is still very much on track for an English language release. “Definitely coming to the US” was the official line, although the date, server fees and more details are said to be revealed soon. Let’s hope it’s very, very soon.
The official Sonic Adventure 2 website has been updated with some helpful hints and tips about the game. If you log on to the site now via Sega.com you can find “1st Mission” hint pages, an Omochao Q&A page where you can submit questions to Sonic Team (so far, Omochao’s been asked how to get past a certain spot on Crazy Gadget), and a Message Board that’s split into ‘Beginner’, ‘Expert’ and ‘Chao’ forums. You can also download a VMU file that changes the voice in the menu screen in Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic’s. Neat!
Sonic Team’s puzzle game series, Puyo Puyo (released on Mega Drive in the West as Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine) is getting a portable version for Game Boy Advance! Well there’s a surprise! It looks like Amazon are selling old VHS tapes of the SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. They’re going for around $12 each, and there are only three to choose from, but if you’re needing an animated blue blur fix right now you can’t say fairer than this. Sonic Adventure 2 has a little secret. A classic, 16-Bit secret. Being the 10th Anniversary of the Sonic series, you’d think Sonic Team would add something special to the Dreamcast sequel. Sonic’s Dreamcast swansong is making an impact in Japan right now, as Famitsu magazine reports that Sonic Adventure 2 has sold more than 84,000 copies in its first week on sale. With plenty of copies already sold in the US, it seems that SA2 is already a huge hit!

So many PSO Version 2 delays! This time it’s the US version of the game that’s being held back, originally due to release on July 10th but has recently changed to ‘TBD’ (To Be Determined) on SEGA’s official website. It’s likely that the game won’t see light of day in the West until August or September.

The release of the most eagerly anticipated Sonic game ever has come – to those of us that live in North America. Sonic Adventure 2 will be the final Sonic game on a SEGA system – after running on Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, 32X, SEGA CD, Saturn and a short jog on Neo Geo Pocket Color, and finally the Dreamcast. No, this is not a blatant lie – there is very big rumour that Sega and Nintendo are indeed in working on a game. But – and get this – this will be a landmark game that’ll bring Sonic and Mario together for the very first time! According to the latest issue of the UK ‘N64’ magazine by Future Publishing, the news sounded pretty much like it was no rumour – so if this is true, it will bring a tear to many feuding Nintendo/Sega fans of old. Word has it that Sonic the Hedgehog will actually be a very well hidden character in Nintendo’s upcoming brawling game for Gamecube, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Nintendo and Sega refused to comment on the rumor, so we’ll see where it goes from here.

Sega has just announced an American release date for Phantasy Star Online Version 2 – finally! It’ll arrive on July 10th for a price of $39.99. No word on the pay-to-play online, but at least we have the release date for now.
Probably. But those of us that have a Sega Dreamcast, like me, are likely thinking about what console to get next. Seeings as Sega is currently not making any more consoles, the sensible option would be to grab the machine that has the most Sega support going for it.
