Sonic Cartoons Coming to DVD, Courtesy of DiC

DiC Entertainment, the animation company responsible for the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons in the 1990s, has recently broken free from former parent company Disney. And now that it is an independent once more, it plans to re-release a number of Sonic shows on DVD in time for the company’s tenth anniversary. PSO X-Buns – Easter Hits Sonic Team’s Online RPG

Easter has arrived on Phantasy Star Online, and that means special in-game events! Giant Easter Eggs and Fireworks on the Pioneer 2 are expected to be added to the game, along with special music whilst in the lobby area.

It’s rumoured that certain special items, and even new enemies, will be making a temporary presence in the ultimate Easter egg hunt. Be careful of giant attacking bunnies!

SA2 Will Feature Tails, Rivalries, Three Different Kinds of Play

Sonic Adventure 2 Release Date

Sega has put us all out of our misery and finally announced a release date for Sonic Adventure 2.  The game will be hitting Japanese store shelves on June 23, which just happens to be Sonic the Hedgehog’s 10th Anniversary! What a fitting launch date. The game will launch in North America a couple of days before, on June 21 – not quite the Anniversary, but close enough (and US fans get to play it earlier, so stop whining). Sega Officially Confirms Microsoft Xbox Release Slate

Looks like the rumours were true – SEGA has formally announced this week that they will be bringing eleven titles to Microsoft’s Xbox. They revealed four such titles during this announcement, which involve sequels to some classic SEGA properties. Rumour: Sega to Announce Xbox Partnership at Tokyo Game Show 2001

The upcoming Spring 2001 Tokyo Game Show event will be the venue for a big SEGA announcement that will see a list of games planned for Microsoft’s Xbox, according to IGN. The site says that it expects the publisher to outline specific titles alongside Microsoft when it introduces the Xbox console to the Japanese market. Sonic Adventure 2, PSO Demoed at GDC 2001

Not exactly earth-shattering news, but IGN is reporting that SEGA is showcasing demo versions of Sonic Adventure 2, Phantasy Star Online and a number of other Dreamcast titles at the Game Developers Conference 2001. No new information was gleaned from these appearances, but it does show that the House of Sonic is still supporting its final console even as it pushes towards third party publishing. Only a few more months to go until SA2, folks!

SEGA Sues Kmart for Alleged Non-Payment of Dreamcast Shipments

With all the news/rumours flying around about Sega ceasing production of the Dreamcast, you’d be forgiven for thinking that US retailer Kmart’s removal of the console from its shelves was some sort of reaction to that. Well, you’d be wrong – Sega is suing the chain for allegedly failing to pay around $2.2 million for hardware shipments since 1999.

‘SEGASonic the Hedgehog’ Arcade Game Discovered and Dumped

A rather nice discovery has been made, amidst all the console doom and gloom. It turns out that a rather crafty member of the Sonic community has got his hands on a working ROM of a long-lost Sonic game called ‘SEGASonic the Hedgehog’. The title, originally released in Japanese arcades in limited numbers, has been difficult to emulate due to its unique trackball control scheme. But now, someone’s played it on a computer! SA2: Sonic’s Shadow Has a Name

New images of Sonic Adventure 2 have been revealed, giving a name to Sonic’s mysterious black doppelgänger. His name is Shadow, and he certainly looks similar enough to Sonic to be named as such.
