Sega has just announced an American release date for Phantasy Star Online Version 2 – finally! It’ll arrive on July 10th for a price of $39.99. No word on the pay-to-play online, but at least we have the release date for now.
Probably. But those of us that have a Sega Dreamcast, like me, are likely thinking about what console to get next. Sonic Team confirmed today that Sonic Adventure 2 does come with a bonus goodie all its own- a mini kart racing game where players can race against each other for rings and bonuses. There’ll be a few tracks and players available initially, but Sonic Team will make new tracks and players available via downloads from the Internet. This should be the case for the US and Japanese versions alike, as well as the European release.
What good is an anniversary without a party to celebrate? Sonic Team plans to do just that in honour of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 10th, with two events happening in Japan which will allow fans to net some swag and schmooze with Sonic Team developers. Reuters reports that Sega and Sonic Team will be making a special version of Phantasy Star Online for PlayStation 2. The game will be released later this year in the US and will apparently be one of the first products that will be involved with Sega’s latest collaboration with Sony, which will also see Dreamcast users link up to PS2 players.
We knew that Chao Gardens were set to return in Sonic Adventure 2, but we’ve never seen anything like this before! It looks like you’ll be able to now raise Good and Evil Chao!
The latest update to the official Sonic Team website shows the image of an angelic and demonic Chao, that can apparently be raised by any of the characters in the game. Woah! If you haven’t noticed already, Sega Europe has teamed up with Sega of America to give away a copy of Sonic Adventure 2! Go to the main page of the website, there’s a link to the competition there. Anyone from Europe and America can enter, and it’s worth taking part – you can win the game, the LIMITED EDITION BOX SET, SOAP Shoes, and a Swatch watch.
In a recent article in the UK edition of Nintendo Official Magazine, it was noted that Sega and Nintendo are working together on a top secret RPG for Ninty’s new knight in shining armour, the GameCube. We already know that Sega is releasing a number of games on the console, including Phantasy Star Online, so this wouldn’t seem too far fetched.
In any case, it really seems like Sega has hit the ground running when it comes to third party development. Beware, Electronic Arts!
With 19 days left to go until the release of the biggest Sonic game ever, SEGA America has finally opened its own official Sonic Adventure 2 website. And as a double-whammy, the new site revealed that the 10th Anniversary special edition (that comes with gold coin, soundtrack and history book) will be sold in American stores!
