Sonic Crackers was announced for the Sega 32X soon after Sonic 1 and 2 was released on the Mega Drive. It’s initial WIP title was actually ‘Sonic Stadium’, believe it or not! Crackers featured much of the same action that you can now find in Knuckles Chaotix, which was released in 1995. The release of the most eagerly anticipated Sonic game ever has come – to those of us that live in North America. Sonic Adventure 2 will be the final Sonic game on a SEGA system – after running on Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, 32X, SEGA CD, Saturn and a short jog on Neo Geo Pocket Color, and finally the Dreamcast. No, this is not a blatant lie – there is very big rumour that Sega and Nintendo are indeed in working on a game. But – and get this – this will be a landmark game that’ll bring Sonic and Mario together for the very first time! According to the latest issue of the UK ‘N64’ magazine by Future Publishing, the news sounded pretty much like it was no rumour – so if this is true, it will bring a tear to many feuding Nintendo/Sega fans of old. Truly remarkable news. Sonic and Mario, joining forces it seems, the thought of it is just… wow! And I mean WOW!

Word has it that Sonic the Hedgehog will actually be a very well hidden character in Nintendo’s upcoming brawling game for Gamecube, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Nintendo and Sega refused to comment on the rumor, so we’ll see where it goes from here.

Sonic Team confirmed today that Sonic Adventure 2 does come with a bonus goodie all its own- a mini kart racing game where players can race against each other for rings and bonuses. There’ll be a few tracks and players available initially, but Sonic Team will make new tracks and players available via downloads from the Internet. This should be the case for the US and Japanese versions alike, as well as the European release.
We knew that Chao Gardens were set to return in Sonic Adventure 2, but we’ve never seen anything like this before! It looks like you’ll be able to now raise Good and Evil Chao!
The latest update to the official Sonic Team website shows the image of an angelic and demonic Chao, that can apparently be raised by any of the characters in the game. This is one of the first Sonic titles officially developed for a non-Sega platform – namely the Neo Geo Pocket Color. This release was to accompany Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, but sadly the NGPC could never compare to the likes of Nintendo’s Game Boy Color no matter how much it tried, and therefore SPA didn’t get nearly enough attention. The Sega Dreamcast will be getting a special Sonic-themed bundle soon, according to a listing on US retailer EBGames. You can see the pack here, which comes with a special packaging and will apparently include a blue VMU memory card and copies of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Shuffle, along with a demo for Sonic Adventure 2. Finally, that burning question has been well and truly answered. In an interview with IGN Insider, Sonic Adventure 2 director Takashi Iizuka confirmed that Sonic’s pink admirer, Amy Rose, will indeed play a part in the game’s story. But unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your viewpoint) she will not be playable. It’d be interesting to see how she makes an impact on the plot when the game’s released.
Sonic Advance could be limited to a Japan-only release, according to information currently published on the official Game Boy Advance website. If you want to get your hands on Sonic Adventure 2 in the UK, you should head on down to London’s famous Oxford Street shopping district. According to Sonic HQ, Sega is showcasing a new demo version of the game in a number of Dreamcast pods near the ‘Miss Selfridges’ store. It’s a more complete demo, featuring more content than you can find in the PSO demo disc; you’ll be able to play the first level of each character’s story. Let us know what you think!
