How did you see Knuckles before SA?

I never saw Sonic as the no-attitude type of guy.To me he always seemed cocky, fun, and kinda egotistical. But he can become serious when it's needed. Though, I do like what you think Knuckles should act like.

I used to think Knuckles was a girl. Dead serious. As a 4-year-old I was under the impression that genders where based on hair length, short hair for boys, long hair for girls. Knuckles has long dreads. Until I was corrected, he was a girl to me P;

This is understandable reason gender mistake!

Personally, I saw him as a Gary Oak kind of character. Someone who has an advantage over you as well as constantly mocks you. That one charcter that makes you want flip the bird. It just makes the moment you get to fight him all the more satisfying.

I'm glad that doesn't hold true anymore. I wear my hair at a slightly medium length. I don't like that super short near fuzzy cut for hair,but nor do I wear my hair long like a girl. It covers the back of my neck and that's it. I guess I can see dreads making people think that, though it still always looked like he was a guy just from the way he presented himself.

I always saw (and still see) Knuckles like how he was portrayed in Adventure. That's the first game that I played that I really paid attention to him as a character and his backstory. I love how he is very serious about his role as guardian of the Master Emerald. And I really like how they still portray him as gullible when he attacks Sonic after Eggman tells him that Sonic took the emerald pieces. And I love that Sonic even calls Knuckles out on falling for it!

I just find this Knuckles to be the most believable, especially when diving into the echidna backstory and finding out Knuckles is the only one left. If you were the only one of your tribe/species left, wouldn't you have a somewhat somber/serious attitude, and wouldn't you want to protect whatever powerful relic (the M.E.) was still left behind? I just hate what they have done with his character, demoting him to not much more than a clueless, hotheaded oaf.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with the SA1 version of Knuckles since he is still mostly close to the way he was portrayed in the genesis games. Knuckles being slightly gullible to things still does seem to fit his character, but at the same time he isnt really portayed as an idiot. He is simply portrayed as being out of touch with how everything works really in modern society. Being demoted to a total bafoon alot of the time definately does not suit him.
