He's kind of burying speed a bit more than he should. Sonic needs to be fast, but when he has speed on demand like in Unleashed, it leads to a very bland experience. And Sonic's mouth shouldn't be centered, though I think they pushed it too far to the side in Unleashed.

Otherwise, yeah.

E: And I love the drawing as well, that's a really memorable part of Lava Reef Zone. a surprise 180 followed by a launch over a pool of lava.

Oh my. I could be mistaken but it looks like Mr. "make an awesome nostalgic picture and totally ruin the mood by posting an awful rant on modern Sonic" is at it again.

Either way, I'm sure we could all do without this kind of crap. It's just catering to a specific audience and we all know that won't really work nowadays now that we actually have modernists in the fandom. Honestly, it shouldn't matter whether a game is "modern" or "classic" - most people with an inkling of sense won't care if the game is enjoyable to play.

Someone get this guy a BAWW prize nomination and tell him to step in line with the other brilliant geniuses who have sat down and potentially wasted several hours of precious time ranting about this very same thing. I'm kinda tired of hearing of these 'Modern Sonic sux, bring back old skool Sonic!!!' rants. They can rant till they're blue in the face about it, but it probably won't change whatever direction SEGA intends to take the blue blur in future titles. I especially like how he throws away the question/statement about his rant being his opinion by folks who can't back up what they say. Some are right, some are wrong? Please. That's basically like saying my/his opinion is better/greater/weighs more than anyone else's. That would be great in theory but it doesn't work that way, especially if he's trying to get people to really take his statements with more than a grain of salt.

I could go on this whole rant about it, but it's his dA page, so he can say whatever the hell he wants as long as he isn't cramming it down my face and/or trying to act like the next 'savior' of the franchise. Otherwise he's fully free to come off as a raving mad fan with nothing better to do than to whine about the good old days.

I...personally don't feel the gap between the classic games and the modern games is all that wide, even if I wish the games were a tad less focused on speed and a bit more on platforming complexity. I can see why others would feel different, but, with the possible exceptions of Shadow and 06, I feel like the basic spirit of the series has remained consistent, even if the gameplay has varied somewhat wildly.

But that's more an issue with execution than it is with the concept. It's not really fair to blame the age of the game if it was just plain poorly made.

Ah, it's okay, I still got that nostalgic side of me in there, so I can certainly symptathize with people who want a return to older way of doing things.

Hi Dio, you and your having similar opinions to me! I agree with him in places. But his single-trackness makes me go urgh.

Sure I'm not a fan od the recent (Post 2005) games, but I'm still not that bad. I hope =/

Yes, the series has thoroughly changed and yes the many major important defining aspects have been removed. But that's no reason to dismiss anyone who likes the series as it is as a "fanboy." A fanboy is someone who indiscriminately loves everything about a series no matter what. But there are many Sonic fans (such as myself) who were introduced later in the series and hold it more to those standards and many of us are still able to discriminate. I love SA2 and Unleashed but I hated Shadow and 06. So apparently, by his argument, I don't exist.

Guess it's time to practice what my sig preaches.

I still have some nostalgic love in me. I do prefer the older gen to the next gen and I am not a huge fan of a lot of the characters introduced etc but I don't go ramming it down people's throats or anything like that. I would like some remakes of the originals that'd be purdy but... it won't happen and that's cool too.

Yeah, that's a good point, it'd be great for the remakes to get as wide an audience as possible.

Thanks for reminding me about the Klonoa remake! I was looking foward to it, but somehow I completely forgot about it.
