Which characters are most deserving of a spin off series?

With Sonic X Shadow Generations coming soon I couldn’t help but wonder if it will give Sega the confidence of giving characters spin offs again if it’s a success. So with that said, which characters do you think are the most deserving of not only their own game but their own spin off series in general (think Donkey Kong or Luigi’s Mansion)?

I think Shadow is a no brainer. I’d love to see him have his own spin off series where he, Rouge and Omega go around the world completing missions as GUN agents. It also helps that some villains in the franchise have more of a beef with Shadow than they do with Sonic such as Mephiles or Infinite.

As for the gameplay, I think Shadow should retain his style from generations as it’s looking pretty good. Rouge would probably have a frontiers style gameplay where you would be able to see the full potential of her combat abilities and gadgets she has at her disposal. There would also probably be stealth sections as well. Omega would definitely play the way he does in 06, or should I say P-06. Just look at this!

So which characters would you love to see get a spin off?

Do chao count? I'd like to see a chao spin off that's not filled with microtransactions and FOMO practices. Something cute, chill and cozy.

It would be nice if the chao game also had Cream the Rabbit in it, not necessarily as a main character, even just as an NPC that helps you with your chao or even a as rival in the minigames (you have to challenge Cheese with your chao).

Besides, it would be an expanded version of the Chao Garden/Chao World from the Adventure games, with more minigames, more customization, more things to do in general... maybe with some inspiration taken from Animal Crossing too.

There should be a simple platforming/adventure mode where you explore some areas to gather resources for your garden and food for your chao, as well as animals. Since it's a spin-off, it doesn't have to be regular Sonic-style gameplay, it can be something more relaxed and open world-ish (in small sandbox stages).

I agree, a spinoff series centering on Team Dark could have a lot of potential. Their positions as GUN agents already provide the perfect setup for some cool story premises that you otherwise couldn't set up easily with a character like Sonic, and the characters' different abilities could provide some diverse gameplay styles for those who like more variety in their games. For example, with Omega, you could have some Call of Duty-style first-person shooter gameplay stages (since Sega evidently is afraid to ever let Shadow hold a gun again), and with Rouge you could have some Sly Cooper-style stealth stages. Meanwhile, for Shadow's stages, they could incorporate the usual Sonic style of platforming and combat while also having some fun using special abilities like Chaos Control.

It would be cool to see Sega make another attempt at a more mature, T-rated (12+) Sonic game, but even if they wanted to keep it strictly kid-friendly, it would still be feasible I'm sure. For example, all the targets in the shooting stages could just be robots, or any human enemies that had to be taken out could just be incapacitated instead of outright killed like in the Shadow the Hedgehog game. And of course, a game centering on Team Dark would give the perfect opportunity to explore the characters' relationships with each other in more depth, something I think a lot of fans would enjoy.

Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic that Sega would do something that cool. However, maybe if some fan game creators are ever looking for some new ideas...

Silver should have a spin off. I want gameplay of the Generations boss fight, where he is flying around picking stuff up and launching crap.

I'd love to see the world of Sonic's future in the eyes of Silver and what kind of companions he'd have. We could even see Shadow around since he dosen't age, I'd like him to wear something though, just to have a slight different design in the future timeline. We could see what sort of crazy bad guys are in this timeline and also Eggman Nega.

We need the Chaotix. It would be the wildest detective game ever. The character dynamics between Vector, Espio, and Charmy made me laugh in Sonic X, Shadow the Hedgehog, etc, and I want to see it again! Whether fighting crime or doing a simple job for Vanilla, these guys know how to keep us captivated! This spinoff could be like a sequel to Knuckles’ Chaotix, adding Mighty, Knuckles, and probably Ray! It would kinda play like MoSTH, or Knuckles’ Chaotix.

A Team Dark spinoff would also be a great idea, since they have a really great setup, being GUN agents, and having some interesting motives.

Well most deserving is subjective,  but I'd personally love to see Blaze or Silver get their own games.  I'd play either in a heartbeat!

Also a new Knuckles game would be fun, as would a Chaotix game.

I'm not picky really, I'd love to see any character get their own game really.

I'd like a new Tails-centric game. Recall that his story arc for Frontiers was that he wanted to "Go it alone for a while" without the backing of Sonic.

What if we had a game where he actually followed through with that?

What if we had a game where Tails had an adventure of his own, encountered a new enemy that threatened the planet and gave him some more character development, allowing him to grow and finally gain the status of hero that he truly deserved?

I know there have been Tails spin-off games in the past, but those were released decades ago! It's about time he got some time in the limelight again. The 30th Anniversary comic proves that Tails can carry a story on his own.

If the Chaotix were to get a spin off, I think the Sonic Heroes gameplay style would fit them best since they’re a trio.

I wish for a Chris' Mom spin-off where you're her manager in the various movie/model rolls she does in the Sonic X series

That'd be funny

As someone who actively promoted myself as the CEO of Knuckles’ Chaotix back on Twitter (you know, back when that was a trend and when I still on there), I approve of this message.

The Chaotix, easily. A detective whodunnit mystery game similar to something like Murder of Sonic mixed with like, Sam & Max or DR. Imagine the character interactions. The potential is ENDLESS.

Also definitely Knuckles, too. Give him another go to have his own game, Knuckles’ Chaotix isn’t really even about him nor does it feel like it either, would love a game focused on him. :3

Amy. Rose.

She's the only one of the "Classic Four" (Five, if we're counting Eggman) who doesn't have her own spin-off game, and also the only one of the "Main Cast" (which includes Shadow) without a game of her own. Amy is long overdue for a spin-off game, and seeing how SEGA/Sonic Team are pushing her more to the front we ought to get that soon.

And it's not like you can't do a whole lot with Amy for her own game. Her abilities lend themselves to a variety of gameplay styles distinct from the usual "speedy platforming" of the main Sonic series, and Amy's background gives her great flexibility for story; just make up a fun adventure for Amy and we're good!

As to what kind of game Amy should get, I'm leaning towards an RPG. Allows for all of Amy's abilities and skills to be used in some way and also allows for other characters to get some good spotlight as party members, such as Cream (who, loathe I am to admit, has no chance of getting her own spin-off). RPGs are also more story-driven than most games and something Amy also sorely lacks is her own proper story; Knuckles has Sonic 3&K and Adventure 1, Shadow has SA2 and ShTH, Blaze has Rush, and Silver has 06. Closest thing Amy has is CD (where she's a damsel in distress) and Adventure 1 (with her story being a negligible side-plot to the greater story). So... How about we address that?

An Amy RPG would be a great way to utilize her new magic based abilities. Not to mention it would be a great opportunity to finally have a magic based villain in the franchise.

I mean, Princess Peach: Showtime gave us Grape - that could set a good starting point.

And no, I am not counting Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door or Super Paper Mario - Beldam literally achieved nothing other than kidnapping Peach and handing her over to the X-Nauts (after the Shadow Queen's revival in Chapter 8, Beldam took it upon herself to take credit for everything Grodus did), and Dimentio being the main villain of Super Paper Mario is a plot twist someone could see coming as far as CHAPTER 5, when the whole Floro Sprout fiasco started becoming prominent. Those two do not deserve to be magic-based Mario villains.

Expanding on the Amy RPG idea, I think these should be the party members:

Cream and Big: They were her team mates in Sonic Heroes so it makes sense.

Trip: Amy was the first one to befriend her in superstars so it would be significant if she were to join Amy in a modern game.

Sticks: Amy’s dialogue in the end of Frontiers revealed that Sticks exists in the main universe and that Amy wants to hang out with her more so this would be the time to do it.

Whisper: Sonic’s dialogue in Frontiers shows that the idw characters exist in the games so I think an RPG would be the best place for them to make their game debut. Whisper would be awesome for an RPG since she uses different kinds of wisps to assist her in combat which could lead to all sorts of creative attacks.

I’d also have characters like Sonic, Shadow, and Rouge appear in the game as temporary party members at different parts of the game.

Also, I just now realized something about @Maple Syrup’s theoretical Knuckles’ Chaotix sequel.

Takashi Iizuka HAS wanted to make a Knuckles’ Chaotix sequel since 2010!

Sad that they haven’t gotten the chance to do it yet along with the third NiGHTS game, though… Sega’s management was quite strict until only recently…

I'm biased. But Eggman.

Villains deserve to have their own victories, especially if you desire to build up credibility. Which I doubt SEGA cares about but nevertheless.

Give him his own series antagonist. A rival mad scientist, another non-Sonic super-powered mobian, or have him put the smackdown on a rogue Metal Sonic model. Just something.

I said this before, but you can totally build an Eggman Empire RTS or tycoon game. Release it to mobile, it'd work

I’m down for another Chaotix game. Preferably I’d want it in the characters modern designs so that way we can get a modern Fang and Mighty.

The idea of Mighty being involved loosely with the Chaotix again would be so fun, but honestly Classic Chaotix would be fun to see again too. It’s been a really long time since we’ve seen classic Espio, Vector, and Charmy.

Either one would be killer to see.

Actually another character that has great potential for a spin off series is Silver. He lives 200 years in the future, so the setting alone is ripe for potential in terms of gameplay and storytelling. Plus I think it’s way past time Silver has a storyline where he stays in the future to solve a problem rather than constantly traveling back to the past.

If done right a Silver spinoff series could basically have him be the Korra or Terry McGinnis of this franchise, basically being the great hero of the future. This would be a great opportunity for him to have a supporting cast and rogues gallery unique to him. Maybe one of his companions can be a new character that’s a Babylonian that’s possibly descended from Jet, Wave, or Storm.

Plus we can possibly see what iconic stages from past games look like in the future. Maybe westopolis can have a big memorial to those who lost their lives during the Black Arms invasion. Angel Island could possibly be guarded by GUN in the future since Knuckles would’ve inevitably passed away by the time Silver was born. Heck GUN could possibly be one of the antagonists in the story since the Master Emerald would be in their possession.

So yeah Silver could definitely carry his own spin off if the right people work on it.

Amy definitely needs a spin-off. An RPG/action game will be perfect for her, especially with her tarot cards now added to her arsenal.

Knuckles Chaotix sequel, I'm down for that, even though I hadn't finished the original. Bring back Knuckles, Vector, Charmy, Espio, and Mighty first, then add in Ray, a female character (a possible Julie-Su replacement? Or a new female character?), and possibly add Sonic, Tails, Amy and Cream (?) as temporary or DLC characters.
