Tee Lopes Shares Alternate 'Stage Clear' Music for Sonic Mania

Tee Lopes, the musical maestro behind Sonic Mania's soundtrack (among many other amazing OSTs since) has shared an early version of one of the tracks intended for the 2017 Sonic platformer.

The track is an "early 'Stage Clear jingle", Lopes reveals on social media, and could at one point have been the tune players would have heard upon completing a stage in Sonic Mania. In the end, as we all know, the final game used a "Teelopesy" rendition of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles 'Stage Clear' jingle instead.

All that said, it's really nice to hear alternative tracks like this. Like most menu-based tracks in Sonic Mania's soundtrack, it features the familiar leitmotif that became synonymous with the game. A shame it didn't get used in the end - but we imagine that, with SEGA's plan for Mania being a halfway-trip down memory lane, it was decided that using a more familiar jingle made more sense.

What do you think of Tee's alternate track here? Let us know in the comments below!

The greatest sin will always remain never properly finishing Angel Island's track.

In true Sonic modding fashion, somebody has already gone and modded it in to the game.

It honestly sounds really good. Way more unique than just using the S3&K one again (as was done by Adventure. And Adventure 2. And Heroes. And '06. And 3D Blast. And the Saturn version of 3D Blast. And presumably Superstars as well unless I live under a rock and they've revealed otherwise)

It does sound good and fits well. Of course it got cut because Sega probably wanted the current Stage Clear jingle.

But it was properly finished for Plus, and sounds every bit as good as the other "Tee-mastered" Act 1s.

On to this Act Clear jingle... It's nice, but it ends strangely. Feels very abrupt and almost like a bit of a downer?

I'm actually glad that we got the S3K track instead anyway. The Sonic series has very few constantly recurring theme tunes, and even the Act Clear jingle typically gets shafted these days. I'd like S3K one to stick around and get remixed where appropriate. It's a classic.

Superstars demo footage uses the final jingle from Mania verbatim. It's probably just a placeholder, as is some of the other music we've heard for the game.

The last two notes seemed to be channeling S3's clear jingle anyway, so it noticable feels a bit at odds with what came before. Otherwise gives me Robo Blast 2 vibes in how it utilizes its leitmotif in its jingle, and the cheering sound at the end does compliment the "party" vibe the OST follows.

Maybe I would do like the unique "mission clear" jingle from 06 and have it seperate from the main S3 jingle, and instead play for things like Special Stages, Time Attack, Competition, etc.

Wow this sounds so sick. Should have at least been the act clear music for Encore Mode.

I love it, but it does sound too grandiose for the retro theme that Mania shot for.

It sounds more like one of those arranged versions you get on the official OST.
