I wonder why LEGO Eggman looks modern here?

Love the box art of Sonic Superstars It's the perfect cover for the game. And hoping the rest of the world gets the same pre order bonus contents as well.

Lego eggman ingame skin? Of all the skins to go with, one based of lego is so weird but kind of cool. I wonder if the rest of the cast will get lego skins as well?

Also, an acrylic display stand with a pre-order is interesting. Haven't seen a game do that since the japanese version of the Megaman Zero/ZX Collection.

I'm not sure if Lego Eggman is a skin for bosses, or maybe it has something to do with Battle Mode, the Nintendo page for the game lists 8 players online... the battle mode in the newsletter said it was online... no way 8 players or characters are in the main gameplay, so I think Eggman might be playable in this battle mode.

"Minigame" is quite a lip biting implication. Combined with the guess that Eggman is playble in this mode leads me to think this might not be a mode that carries over any of the regular gameplay and more akin to a Kirby-esc subgame where everyone will control the exact same. Something which would have as little replay value as a Mario Party minigame, or more appropriately Mania's Mean Bean mode. And now I have this uneasy hunch that the skins could only be for this mode; can't say for sure.

If they can't outright do a traditional versus mode where players race each other through the campaign's stages, they could at least try something like that on a smaller scale, take S3's Competition mode for instance. 

 

 

On the other had, modern like skins for all the other characters doesn't seem as out of the question now.

Hmm.

This makes we wonder if we will get a "skins" dlc further down the line.

Maybe the Sonic Channel will reveal a new Lego partnership...like Star Wars or Potter?? Then again maybe its just tied to tge new Lego set they nust released.

 

fingers crossed there is an extra hard mode or new game+ mode which unlocks eggman in his egg-o-matic which explains the eggman lego dlc.

8 playable characters due to the multiplayer, right? So that implies we have an even more mysterious new character than even Trip, right?

A story driven or just strictly mulitplayer character is not fully known, but there is still bound to be at least one more character we don't know yet that will be playable.

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Trip, Fang, Metal Sonic (not yet confirmed but come on, he's going to be in. He's as annoyingly predictable as GHZ is at this point)

There's a chance there's more, but I wouldn't get your hopes up tbh.

Given that the 8-player mode is confined to a minigame, I'm pretty confident it'll just be colour tint versions of the main playable characters, and possibly just colour tint versions of Sonic.

I hope they dont chose the recolor route tho. Itd be lazy and more confusing for a mini game type multiplayer, especially since they already have 7 character models at display. They might as well make one more.

It's possible they might use multiple extra character skins to pad out the roster, which would still be easier than coding in a whole character or characters who aren't playable in the main game.  But I would rather be wrong about believing the recolour theory than be wrong about believing in unannounced playable characters.  I do think it's increasingly likely for there to be a fair number of skins - hopefully not just two promotional ones.
