Sonic games you do/don't have an interest in playing

This may be a dumb idea for a topic, but are there any Sonic games you've never played that you really don't care if you ever play, or any Sonic games you've never played that you want to play? You can also talk about games you've played a little bit that you do or don't want to play more.

I haven't played many of the "bad Sonic games", such as ShTH, '06, Free Riders, SB:RoL, etc. and frankly, I wouldn't mind keeping it that way. My only experience with the Storybook series is a little tiny bit of Secret Rings a long time ago, but I'm not really interested in them either. It sounds like they have very flawed gameplay that would likely annoy me too much for it to be worth it. I know everyone extols the storylines, but personally, I don't like the idea of Sonic going to another world and doing "non-Sonicy things" in the first place, if that makes any sense.

I don't really plan on playing Sonic Rush any time particularly soon since I heard it has a lot of death pits, which I find annoying.

There are actually a lot of Sonic games I haven't played that I want to play. Chief among them are probably the Advance series and Battle, the Advance series because I like 2D Sonics and Battle because I enjoy fighting games and am intrigued by the storyline. I wish that someday I could play SegaSonic Arcade, but that would probably be pretty difficult.

The most relevant example of a Sonic game I don't have any overwhelming interest in playing is Lost World. On the surface, the gameplay looks to have all of the issues I had with Colors and Gens mostly intact: an unsteady or nonexistent difficulty curve, an inability to tie together the stages' settings and gimmicks with the narrative, the Wisps, and a control scheme that just doesn't look all that interesting to engage in. However, the narrative is the biggest reason I'm not really into it. It's a noble attempt at exploring interesting scenarios with the characters marred by poor plotting and frustrating moral conclusions about the cast. It's probably not all that bad a game as a whole, but I don't personally see myself falling in love with it.

I've never played the Rivals games but I'd really like to. I like the idea of a 2D racing game in the series. I just don't own a psp.

I've also never played Chronicles and I have no interest in ever doing so. I'm not even a big fan of RPG's aside from a small handful of exceptions and it just looks so bad.

And yeah SegaSonic on arcade, it looks so cool. I really wish it could be ported to a modern console some day.

Sonic Boom. On top of the obvious glaring problems it has, it's also just very bland and generic to me as an idea, and everything about it so far has bored me beyond belief. Johnny's review does a pretty good job at wording my feelings about it. (I do like a few of the character interactions I guess, but that's one small thing in comparison the the entirety of Boom.)

Sonic Unleashed: I have played tge Unleashed mod in Generations but I'm not really interested in playing the real game because of the Werehog. I'm just not a fan of the genre to begin with. Also the medel collecting. Why would I have to do that when in Generations I can play the levels without it. But I guess that I have to play the game eventually after I have played Lost World so I could have played all main Sonic games.

Boom: From all that I have seen about the game I can do one assumption: it's boring. And to me game being boring is the worst thing game can do. Even if it's buggy I can to certain degree look past that as long as I'm having a good time.

Secret rings: Forced motion controls everywhere. That's it.

Shattered Crystal was the first handheld Sonic game in years that I skipped.  I just have absolutely zero interest in a spin-off game by outside developers set in a new universe; it's just so out of the way of what I'm interested in in the Sonic series.  For the same reason, I doubt I'll play Fire & Ice, either.  All I can say is that they had better not be throwing the handheld games to Sonic Boom permanently for now on.

I have zero interest in the mobile games.  Runners looks like a repetitive endless money spinner (I don't understand how this "level structure" works because all the footage I see lasts 15 minutes and goes on and on til Sonic dies and are randomly generated).  Dash again, no proper levels and full of F2P restrictions.  Sonic Jump looks fine but not something I'd invest the time in, since I don't own a smartphone I would only be playing these at home on a tablet and I have consoles and my PC to play there - even on the go I have a 3DS with full quality games to play, so yeah.

I'll probably buy Fire & Ice despite Shattered Crystal being a snoozefest though, coz I'm an idiot and desperate for whatever slobbery "proper game" scraps SEGA are throwing on the floor for me while the main Sonic Team continue to prepare what I'm hoping will be an immaculate banquet of a next main series game after all this time.

I feel the overall sense of adventure is an important part of Unleashed that is lost just playing the daytime stages.  There's also a lot of fun extra acts and the DLC is great if you enjoy boost gameplay and want to be tested on it to the limit by some (frequently ungraceful but if you can forgive that) fiendish level designs.

My advice for anyone put off by Werehog is when you play Unleashed, put all your levelling into Combat, Strength (and a little Life now and then), even experience earned on Daytime stages.  The faster you get that bad boy levelled up in combat the less lengthy and repetitive the combat will be.

I've actually been trying to play every game so alot of games I have no desire to play are games I played and just don't want to continue them like Shadow the hedgehog, sonic R  and sonic 06.=/

I think the only game I can think of that I never played and have no desire to play is Sonic's School house.XD

However games like advance sonic games beyond the first sonic advance that I have never played and of course the future sonic boom fire and ice are games I would love to play in future. I enjoyed the first advance sonic game so I'd like to play the rest of them and I enjoyed the boom games and am looking forwards to Fire and ice.=3

Do have an interest

I've never played any of the Advance or Rush games and I'd like to. From what I've seen and heard about the Advance games, they appear to have a level of gameplay - whilst different to the Mega-Drive games - sounds appealing. Not sure if they are up to the standard of the classics in terms of how they look, control and the music but I'd like to give them a try. I like that there's lots of playable characters and the special stages look interesting. I'd be happy with a mobile release.

Admittedly I don't know much about the Rush games but they sound interesting.

I'd also like to play the 3DS version of Generations. I think it has an interesting selection of stages, some of which I'd liked to have seen in the console game.

Don't have an interest

Games such as Chronicles, Sonic Genesis, Black Knight and Secret Rings have never interest me. I've seen gameplay and from what I've heard from you guys they sound like a chore.

Games I've played a little bit and want to play more

Sonic Colors. I played this gem of a game because I bought a Wii U. The gameplay is a lot off fun and the soundtrack is freaking amazing. However, I gave away my Wii U (a decision I don't regret as I hardly ever used it) so I can no longer play Colors which makes me sad :(

However, I live in hope with it getting a Steam release after SLW made it. You never know.

Games I've played a little bit and don't want to play more

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U). It's not the worst game I've played - I actually think it has some interesting ideas - but it's not something I can see myself going back to.

I want to play the Advanced titles, the Rush titles and Colors DS. I never really got around to playing them. As for games I have no interest in playing, the Game-Gear titles don't interest me at all(although I've played Labyrinth because of how bad I heard it was), same goes for Chronicles, any Sonic Boom Game, and Sonic Battle.

To this day, I've never played the Rivals games, Shuffle and both versions of Boom. Also haven't played the 3DS version of Lost World.

I was never interested in owning a PSP. Hence why I never played the Rivals games.

I was this close to playing Shuffle until I found that the disc was faulty, wouldn't load past the DC's boot-up screen. So I got a refund, had a tenner put towards it courtesy of my mom and bought a brand new Dreamcast version of SA2. Didn't look back to be honest.

Both versions of Boom is the two Sonic titles I didn't have even the smallest interest in playing because, early bullshots aside for the Wii U version, there was absolutely nothing about it that garnered any positive attention on my part. I thought the same of the Shattered Crystal demo. And I certain as hell wasn't going to shell-out £45 and endorse what SEGA were doing, nor give Big Red Button so much as a penny of my money after the clusterfuck they made of this great series.

Wasn't wow'ed by Wii U Lost World at all. The sheer annoyance factor of it's gameplay and writing is what made me sell it actually. I usually never sell my Sonic games simply because I have such a pronounced affinity for them. Chronicles was the only other Sonic title I sold. I don't despise Lost World but I don't think it's anything remotely special either and it's another glaring example of how far this series has fallen since 2010 in my eyes.

Oh wait, I'm digressing. Yeah, Wii U SLW not wowing me is why I wasn't arsed with getting the 3DS version which I hear is even more annoying.

The other Sonic games I haven't played are the very obscure, primarily Japan-exclusive arcade titles such as Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, SEGASonic Cosmo Fighter, SEASonic Arcade and the Sonic Cafe series that were mostly exclusive to the Japan region.

Well, this is an interesting idea for a thread.

Games I have an interest in playing

I've always wanted to play the Advance trilogy, since those three games always looked like the true successors to the "classic" titles. I even had one of them briefly as a kid, and I remember it being pretty fun. Unfortunately, I don't have either a GBA or DS, only a 3DS, and, while I'm pretty sure GBAs are relatively cheap now, I still can't really afford one anytime soon. Right now I'm  kind of hoping they make it to the US Virtual Console so I can play them on my TV.

Games I have no interest in playing

The Riders games (I've played Sonic's story in the first one and have concluded that they're not for me), the 3/DS versions of the recent games (why would I want to play a watered down Colors, Gen or Lost World when I have the console versions?), and the mobile games (I've always personally just been kind of against mobile gaming; if you enjoy mobile gaming, that's fine).

Games I've played and don't plan on going back to

Both Storybook games. I just thought Black Knight was a crappy game, but I've lost interest in playing Secret Rings for a slightly different reason. The game was never very good, but the motion controls were kind of addicting the first time for me. However, when I traded out my Wii for my Wii U, I tried to get my progress back on the new console and found I just couldn't get into it anymore. The controls suddenly felt more tedious than fun, and the game took way to long to get going. Overall, while the game may not be terrible, it has some serious flaws that keep it from being very enjoyable, at least for me. Also, whether it's fair or not, I can't help but kind of blame Secret Rings for Sonic '06 turning out as bad as it did.

Really short list.

Don't want to play.

Sonic 06, Sonic Lost World, Sonic and the secret rings and Sonic and the Black Knight.

Want to play.

Sonic Runners, Sonic 4 Episode 3.

Technically I have played the two Rivals games, but I don't have them for myself due to not having a PSP, and the time that I briefly tried them was a lengthy while ago anyway. Regardless, there's almost nothing that interests me about the Rival games, gameplay or plot-wise, so there's no point in me getting them.

As for the Boom games, I don't think they're the next Sonic '06 like so many folk out there make them out to be - I personally think they're just forgettable for the most part, no more than that - but I don't plan on getting them for myself, if only because I'd like to think I'm not obsessed with getting things that I know I won't care too much for.

I suppose Lost World 3DS is another one? I actually do like Lost World in spite of it's flaws (I still personally think it's a little underrated, but that's another story), and I probably could overcome the supposed higher difficulty of the more notorious 3DS version, but I'm content enough with the Wii U version.

I'd still like to try '06 sometime, just to experience how bad it is myself. Not enough that I'd spend money on it, though...

Welp, can't say I have any games that I won't play since I kind of played almost all of them. Yeah, I actually tried out Free Riders (it was pretty tragic). So I guess the M&S Olympic games are something I'm not gonna go out of my way to play but I did play the DS version of the first one atleast but still, those are not really Sonic games but a game with Sonic in it. So yeah.

But I probably will play Dash 2 since I already played all the other mobile Sonic games, Fire & Ice cause I did pre-order it along with R, Shuffle and the Saturn version of 3D Blast.

I live a tragic life. :(

I have yet to play Unleashed "HD" since I've only played the Wii version. I wanna play it because it looks rad, werehog be damned!

But I don't really have an interest in Lost World. Its weird cause I like how creative it looks. It might slightly because the gameplay is slower than most Sonic games which I don't mind so much if you didn't had to hold a run button. But its also mostly since I've seen the entire game via LPs so I've seen everything.

Another one is Rise of Lyric. While I will acknowledge its a terrible, unfinished game the reason why I don't really care for it is because they patched up all the glitches that made the game hilarious for me. Now its just a "ehhhhhhhhh" kind of game.

Ones I have no desire to play;

Sonic Riders was a horrid experience for me. Not because of the plot, what I managed wasn't bad. The graphics didn't kill it, either, they were actually pretty good for their day. What killed it was the controls. All I got used to was hitting walls and falling into bottomless pits.

I know people liked this one, but if you want my honest opinion, it's not for me if I spend hours upon hours and still can't even start to get used to the controls. If you have desire to play it, well, people like it, so while I think there's a chance you'll hate it, if you can find it for dirt cheap, then what the hell, do it.

On that note, any desire to play any of the sequels has been pretty much killed. I've heard some say Zero Gravity was an improvement, but the original gave me such a miserable experience that in the off-chance that I do play Zero Gravity, I'll have to find that for dirt cheap. Free Riders I'm not even gonna bother with; I don't want a Kinect, and even if I did, I'm sure better games exist.

I also have no desire to go back to Sonic and the Black Knight. I was never all that fond of it in the first place, and...certain things killed any desire I could have had. Heck, I have more desire to play Sonic 2006 once more. I'm debating if I should just sell my copy and have it off my hair; I held on to it for years on end, but now look...

Also, given current feelings, I can't say if I'll be excited for the next Sonic game. I'm at a point with Sega where it could be the best Sonic game ever made...and I'm still unsure if I'll buy it. Maybe used.

Ones I'd like to give a shot;

Knuckles' Chaotix. I never owned a 32X, and I doubt I ever will...but man, I'd like to give it a chance someday.

Sonic Shuffle. Maybe to get some unwarranted nostalgia.

Sonic Advance 2. I played 1 and have 3, but I never played 2.

Sonic Jam. The 3D mode excites me, and I've been thinking about getting a Sega Saturn somewhere down the line. Maybe one day, I'll do it.

Beyond that? I dunno.

I'm interested in playing Sonic 06, Sonic R, Sonic Lost World and Sonic Colors(Wii). I'm missing more that I would like to play I'm sure but these come off the top of my head. In the past I bought the OST to Sonic 06 and enjoyed that. So I definitely would like to try it out. Played Sonic Colors DS but still want to try out Sonic Colors Wii. Really like the music in Sonic R and looks like it can be a pretty fun game for me.

Not interested in playing Free Riders. I actually enjoyed the first two Riders games but I don't know about the Kinect experience.

Games I have an interest in playing;

SegaSonic the Hedgehog. There is something about this game that make me want to play it, I think it's the plot-line and game-play mixing so well together and Eggman was actually a threat.

Sonic 06. (Waiting for the PC port)

Games I have no interest in playing;

The two storybook games. I owned a wii and could have bought the games but the plot-lines and controls were pretty laughable.

Sonic Free Riders. Some people say it's the next game in the Riders series, but it's not.

The two Rival games. I've heard the games helped Silver out as a likable character, but I never cared enough about him to see for myself.

I've always wanted to play Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, but I never was able to get it. Hopefully, I'll get it one day.

I also want to play Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis on the GBA just to see how bad it really is.

I literally only played Rise of Lyric for 3 minutes at a Best Buy kiosk; which I thought was amazing because I wasn't even there to play RoL nor was I ever planning on playing it in my whole life. I then gladly never played it again.

I also played Riders: Zero Gravity for 15 minutes before driving back to ye olde Blockbuster and trading it for another game.

And I could definitely go my entire life without playing Black Knight or Advance 3 ever again. Or Chronicles. Or the Rivals games. Or any of the mobile phone games from the early 2000s. Or...

I'm not interested in playing 06 because I'm aware of the critical reception from fans and critics and I've seen LPs of it but unfortunately my friend gave me the game(asshole) so I feel as if I have to play so I won't come off as disrespectful. I never had any interest in the storybook series I don't know they just didn't look appealing to me but like 06 I can say that enjoy the soundtrack. Another series I'm not interested in are the Riders series I like the concept of a futuristic setting but from what I've seen they look needlessly complicated.

Hm, that'd be...

Interested:
> Sonic Colors (Wii)

Not Interested:
> Sonic '06
> Sonic Lost World
> Anything related to Sonic Boom

Simple as that.
