Sonic levels. What kind of levels fits and works well with sonic?

We have seen a lot of beautiful sonic levels during the years but what kind of levels do you think sonic was made for? are cheery and beautiful worlds what suits sonic the best or is it in more darker realistic ones that sonic shines the brightest?

I myself like levels that has a contrast to its light/dark setting. Take frog forest from heroes as an example, A very cheery level with lots of frogs and greenery that had a nice contrast where the level could get very cloudy and having rain pour down everywhere. A nice touch to the level that i enjoyed very much and i would love to see more of these kinds of levels smile.png

As to why i think these levels fits sonic the best is that they show a lot of adventure like spirit, sonic is after all constantly on the move and seeing stuff like the weather changing or getting to more dangerous/Cheery parts represents that well.

I would like a mixture between the bright, colorful worlds that Sonic is known for, and some more grim locales. As long as we don't approach Crisis City levels of grim, I feel like it would work out well.

My personal favorites are cities, casinos, and bases. Sonic adventure 1 and 2 got me hooked on city stages I was glad when I saw that Heroes had a city stage.

I think they can both suit Sonic, lets say for example make the levels match the story/situation. You can start the game all cheery and light hearted and those cheery stages will fit, but as soon as the story starts getting serious then that serioussness can then be reflected on the stages as well.

Thats very interesting, could you give me an example of a stage that pulled this of well in your opinion and i would like to know what you find grim about Crisis city since i thought that that level was quite interesting.

I got hooked on casino levels in sonic 2, just loved the fact that you could gamble. Heroes did a very good job in making a casino level as well with their bingo system and all. Lost worlds casino level felt a bit lacking though :/

In general i do agree that city levels works great for sonic but i do not want it to have as many of those like in gens.

Thats interesting, i do wonder how this would be like and how they would balance it out.
