Go West, Young Hedgehog (Archie & Boom)

Okay so, with Sonic Boom coming in a few months, here's something I've been thinking about.

since Boom is a different series of Sonic that's only exclusive here in the west, I was wondering that maybe Sega could add the freedom fighters cast from the archie comics. I mean, why not? Their redesigns look like they fit perfectly for Boom (they just need a ton of sports tape xD). They're mostly known here in the west. They have decent popularity, The gameplay style could possibly fit them. They would be an interesting addition to the show & it brings more attention to the series & comics.

Now I'm not saying it should happen. I was just having one of those "what-if" moments.

But what do you think, honestly? Would you be alright if that happened, or would you want Boom to stay in the direction its going first?

I'm pretty sure there would be a tie in comic by Archie since they've done adaptations of Sonic games in the past. And if anything it would be in the same universe Archie set up.

I actually am not too familiar with Archie's adaptations of like Sonic Adventure and such but I do believe that it would be in the same universe.

But as far as adding the Freedom Fighters to both Boom's tv show and game wouldn't go well actually. Its more or less a reboot and trying to re-establish themselves first before doing anything else if anything.

It sounds like this isn't a "would it" question so much as "what if it did," so I won't discuss any issues that could prevent this.

If it happened, I imagined it could go well enough. SatAM still has a loyal fanbase, as does Archie. However, I'm not sure how the game-only fans would react. Some would probably feel their product had been rendered impure through the insertion. It's no secret a lot of the game fans feel SatAM is irrelevant and would most likely be ambivalent at best and hostile at worst.

Though if SEGA really wanted to rejuvenate interest in the comic books this would probably help on that front.

Let Big red button, sanzaru games ,ouido, and sega work on the main four's personality before adding more characters to the mix

I wouldn't mind if Boom uses and redesigns other characters from Sonic's Universe, period.

However, I'd like to see how they do Sonic and the other confirmed cast, before making and remaking a bunch of other characters.

Archie is most likely going to make a sonic boom comic that will just be in universe with the game and show similar to the sonic X comic and IDW's tmnt animated adventures and run along side with the main archie title and universe spinoff. What I'm curious is what the tone of the book will be is it going to be serious or a comedy. As long as its not like the sonic x comics I'll be happy

I'm no great fan of the classic Sonic cartoons, but I think it'd be pretty nifty if Boom threw in a few bits and pieces from them if SEGA were cool with it. I wouldn't expect a whole lot, though, and I certainly don't think they'd just dump the Freedom Fighters in as-is. Boom is clearly trying to establish itself as its own entity; the last thing it needs is the baggage of a whole clot of characters like that.

If Boom used anyone, I'd expect something more like maybe Uncle Chuck. A character who's definitively secondary, and one with an obvious, useful story function.

I don't imagine Archie and Boom crossing over being a top priority. Aside from both being western exclusive properties, I have a hard time thinking of Boom bringing Archie characters so soon, especially if the main series won't be doing it. Archie doing a sort of Boom story is more likely, but I doubt they would change anyone's designs. Maybe "another time in another place" sort of one shot, but that's all that really comes to mind.

I wouldn't mind Uncle Chuck as someone said, because he's a secondary character who can serve an obvious purpose (maybe a nicer version of Cranky?) and he has appeared in at least one continuity that the rest of the SatAM cast didn't (Sonic Underground).

It's going to be a comedy. I'd bet a tenner on it if I were a gambler.

It's way too soon for the game series to do that.  They need to really establish the core 4 as well as Eggman first.  However, if the show finds the time to start using the secondary cast as "characters of the day", then using the Freedom Fighters would be just as legit as using the Chaotix IMO.  The whole damn comic world has undergone such a massive reworking and has essentially rebooted itself, so they all might as well be game level characters (for lack of a better term) on a different front.

No really, at this point, it's in full "why the hell not" mode.

Combining them both into a single canon? Heck no.

Using their respective original characters in different ways across universes? Heck yes.

As a fan of the original Western lore, I'd be happy to see the Freedom Fighters in the Boom universe, even if it's just a cameo, and I'm sure seeing some original Boom characters in the Archie Comics would be a delight as well.

This, of course, isn't assuming the negation of the concept of Boom having its own respective comic series alongside the Archie Comics. Best of both worlds, yo! If the Archie writers were behind Boom's hypothetical comic, I'd read it!
