If I must list positives about Shadow then fine..

-The music is nice (Lost Impact, G.U.N Fortress, Digital Circuit, Cosmic Fall)

-Digital Highway as a level is pretty (one of the only pretty levels in the game) and fun to play.

-The cutscenes are fucking hilarious, they are so terrible I just bust a gut. just look at this scene!

Thats about it really.

Except a story about a cartoon hedgehog should be light-hearted and not particularly mature.

If you've got nothing better than "I'm goth", sure.

Opinions vs opinions.

Which will win?

Honestly though the reason I didn't like the game was because it was boring.

The soundtrack wasn't bad though.

Shadow the Hedgehog appreciation thread? I don't even know if there's anything I could appreciate that came out of that game--

Oh yes, there's the two player mode in which my friend and I got laughs from the overly HUGE guns that you could use, Shadow recolors everywhere, and shooting random crap for no reason.

I didn't call the game Gothic, I said I'm into horror and darkness, and that you can just label me as a Goth. I said the game is darker than any of the other entries in the series, which it is.

It's like you're trying to twist things, because you don't have much ground to hold yourself on.

If there's something that's good about it, it's the music.

Oh, and the unintentional comedy. Bust a gut laughing at this;

as well as the scene when he 'executes' Eggman, has a potty mouth for no reason than to look "Badass" and laughed narm-tastically in the evil endings;

It seems everytime theres an appreciation topic of some sort, it always ends up with bitches bitching, fuck your haters.

Bitches gonna bitch

Time to add a shocking face to show my disgust at everyone fueling the anger (not literally "everyone")

Not really disgusted, but close enough...

Yeah, just because its darker doesn't mean its good or better than other stories in the franchise.

Yeah, you can like it. Go ahead, that's not a problem. There is however no way you can pass Shadow off as a good game with a good story. It simply is not. Controls are Heroes on ice (Which is sad considering Heroes was SA2 on ice), level design is average at best, camera makes me want to break the controller and the game disk at the best of times. Dark or not the story is absolute tripe. The script is still terrible, the acting is still terrible, the plot itself is contrived garbage, Shadow himself is acting hideously out of character. Nowhere in SA2 was Shadow a gunslinging mofo with a chronic case of verbal diarreah, never was it even implied that he would act/behave in such a way.

It's a decent game, with a good story that should've been pulled off much better than it was.

For what it is as a whole, it's just decent. Not particularly bad, or good. It's in the middle.

A few? i remember finding one per cutscene.

Yeah, but they weren't major plot-holes. I'm talking about the bigger one's towards the end of the story.

ITs a decent Sonic game, but its a terrible game dude. There's no way you can make this game look good to anybody with a brain.

Hell the only good parts I found were how terrible everything was.

Can't say I agree. The script was total garbage. The plot would have been good if they had removed Black Doom from it and focused more on the vastly more interesting "Shadow Android" angle. It would also have been considerably better if Shadow didn't have a gun (mainly because he doesn't fucking need it) and didn't find the need to say "Damn" every other sentence. Also it would have been better if the other Characters like the Chaotix, weren't pointlessly shoehorned into the plot for no fucking reason (seriously why were they there?).

Thinking about it now, the story would have been much better if they had changed it almost entirely.

Seeing how you all have had your happy happy fun-time now, I'm going to go ahead and give this thread one more chance. If the bloated, stupid arguments persist, I'm locking it. There's no reason a topic like this shouldn't be able to exist, but this argument is going in circles, and if it gets uglier from here on out, slightly more severe action is going to have to be employed.

Even if you ignore:
  • The shitty writing
  • The stupid tacked-on team mechanic
  • The ugly shiny graphics
  • The stupid cutscenes that are honestly worse than Adventure, even with the mouth movements
  • The convoluted story
  • The meh-ish music
  • The GOD AWFUL controls that feel like the ice-skating stages from Mario
  • The voice acting

You are still left with a very bad game.

It's funny how very minor edits to a post can leave me with everything I hate about Sonic Heroes.

Face it, both games are pretty shit, but I personally find Shadow to be better.

I also wished the focused on the Shadow Android angle, THAT would have been interesting.

Instead they force some unnecessary aliens that no one asked for.

I hate about Sonic Heroes.

Well, the ingame cutscenes didnt last more than 10-15 seconds per scene and I would exactly call the story "convoluted" (more like barebones)

I find Heroes decent. Its fun, has better music, level design, and actually fucking FEELS like a Sonic game.

Shadow took everything that bothered me about Heroes and took it to 11,

One thing I like about Shadow is the campiness, no seriously looking back at this game, I found it hilariously bad, I crack up at almost every cutscene now because of it, so while it may be a terrible game, its good if you need a laugh once in a while.

Agreed. When Eggman said that one of his robots saved Shadow from the fall... I was about to bitch-slap one of the writers. What a dumb way to end that part of the story.

Music in Heroes was amazing. Well except for the Vocal songs (Sonic Heroes is a guilty pleasure and What I'm Made Of is a personal fave though).

Also, Shadow was based off of Heroes, so it makes sense that they have the same problems. Heroes was much prettier however. Shadow just looked shit.

You thought Sonic Heroes' music was amazing. I didn't. It's all subjective. I found it to be one of the most forgettable soundtracks the series has had barring Black Knight.

I'm not saying it didn't have good tunes, but if you ask me, most other 3D Sonic game soundtracks kick the shit out of it.

I received a PM from the topic starter asking that this topic be locked, but that was an hour ago, and it seems Sean's got everyone in check for now. Lightspines, if you still want it locked (as is your prerogative) then please let a staffer know (: Otherwise, continue~

Now that egos and attitudes have been placated, there's some things I admire about ShtH. I never got the chance to finish the game beyond a few campaigns and never went back to it since, so I'm going off of old memory. But I like the idea of multiple goals and objectives active within a single level, and subsequently completely different levels to play and story points to discover depending upon your conscious choices. It's an idea that actually deserves some expansion. Running and grinding were also improved significantly from Heroes, especially the latter which has basically been the standard ever since. And I enjoyed different tenets of Shadow's characterization, such as a few jabs at opponents and moments of cockiness. Really, I do enjoy that bit where he believes he's walked across a free Emerald only to have the alarms go off.

I admit, I do enjoy the ending where Shadow goes emo.

It would have been a somewhat good scene if Vector didnt talk.

My favorite ending is still the Sad Ending where he decides to stay aboard the Space Colony Ark and protect it for all eternity.

It was the one of, if not the only non-canon ending that wasn't hilariously stupid.
