Experience Christmas With Eggman, And His Family

YouTube Preview Image

“Christmas With Sonic” by Balenaproductions (creator of “Sonic in Jaws” and the “Sonic Zombie” series), an annual festive treat which began back in 2011, returns once again this year with a brand new twist – what would Christmas be like with Eggman and the family? In “Christmas With Eggman”, we see this possibility unfold.

Creating a false invitation inviting Sonic and Tails to a fancy estate for this year’s Christmas festivities, the good Doctor takes Sonic’s friends and family captive and forces them to be a part of his own party. And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the whole family there…

As always, the video goes down a treat with a fantastic quality of voice work, top notch writing, charming characterisation for the cast and a stylistic animatic-esque look. Give it a watch above, and make sure you check out the other Christmas With Sonic videos (all assembled in this handy dandy playlist) if you haven’t done so already, and get yourself in the festive mood. Christmas is but a few days away!

NEW YEAR’S F*CKING EVE

Biafra Republic will be streaming all of your favorite SEGA and Sonic songs non-stop from A/V Hijack’s HQ in Galveston County, TX, starting at 2PM GMT (8AM US Central/6AM Pacific), and keep on streaming into 2015, ending approximately 8:30AM GMT (2:30AM US Central/12:30AM Pacific).

In keeping with tradition that started last year, this stream will also be a benefit stream, with the proceeds going to the wonderful people at Child’s Play. Also, like last year, there will be orum Badges for those board members who provide their forum profiles in the donation comments. Last year, without any advertising outside of here, Twitter, and SSMB, we raised US$72 for charity. This year, they hope to beat that.

To encourage this, prizes will be given away via Steam to those who donate. What prizes, you ask?

  • 4 prizes of 1 random Genesis-era game each
  • 1 prize of a copy of Sonic Adventure DX
  • 1 prize of a copy of Sonic Adventure 2 and a special surprise!
  • 1 prize is a super-special SEGA-related surprise (too special to be revealed here)!

So, get going, people. Here is the button again, back for a second round of donations

The event is also listed on the Child’s Play Event Calendar. Yay! Also, I may be adding in more Steam gifts as prizes, depending on how work fares. Stay tuned!

Sonic Takes A Selfie In This New Boom Parody

What happens when the biggest viral song of 2014 crosses paths with the biggest Sonic release this year? This apparently.

YouTube Preview Image

In a similar move to last year, The Sonic Show are celebrating their 8th anniversary by taking a Sonical spin on the years largest viral tune. The 2014 parody takes the animation route by featuring the talents of three different animators plus including the best #BADNIK smashing #SELFIES (that’s a lot of hashtags) submitted by their audience in a art contest run earlier this year.

Not only do they cover the expected ground of the most noticeable complaints from the community over the Boom redesigns, they also still find time to make a small dig at Sonic 06, quite fitting when some are calling Boom “Sonic 14″.

Happy Anniversary The Sonic Show!

UPDATE: “Sound Of The Sonic Stadium” Album Dropping November, Previews Available

YouTube Preview Image

A community project by SSMB to produce a powerhouse Sonic music album like no other. Sound familiar? Lead by :: DJ EAR :: with the blessing of our very own VizardJeffhog (leader of the popular TSSMA albums of the previous few years), “Sound of The Sonic Stadium” is releasing this month! Featuring twenty artists and over thirty tracks which equals to over two hours of wonderful music, SoTSS is no doubt an ambitious feat which will maintain the spirit of TSSMA.

:: DJ EAR :: says that the goal of the album was to “maintain the fun, creative, collaborative spirit of that project [TSSMA] – while building a stable & productive future for our community of fan musicians, producers, and listeners”. Members could submit up to two tracks over a three month period in terms of music, and the more arty members could supply album art, logos or any other visuals to aid the project as well. The album’s theme was centered around the phrase “out of the ashes”.

One minute previews for nine of the tracks on the album are now available via SoundCloud for your listening pleasure! Make sure that you give it a listen and follow the project on any of their official outlets to be the first to know when the album drops. And of course, we at TSS will be there to help you stay up to date on the project as well. Keep your eyes open for it later this month!

UPDATE: It’s been officially announced that #SoTSS14 will be releasing Friday, November 28th! The release will follow a listening party hosted by Rexy over on RadioSEGA. Make sure it’s marked in your calendars folks – we’ll be tweeting as we approach the date too!

Sonic X-Treme Found, Data Contains Unknown Sonic Game Branch

Sonic X-Treme Box Art

Following on from the weeks earlier news that a playable build of Sonic X-Treme had been discovered, there has been a significant update. Sonic Retro member CoolJerk who has been instrumental in the week’s progress has released a small statement regarding what’s happened and what’s going on from now on.

The long and short of it. This Sonic X-Treme copy is real, it is the game which was so near release, it’s been found and it’s in the possession of people who are in the process of trying to restore it to a functional state.

Now for the not so good news.

This process is going to take a VERY long time. If you were thinking ‘I’ll get to play this soon,’ get that idea out of your head. You will be waiting months if not years before you can play this, if indeed it can be reverse engineered to a universal state. There is a ton of work to be done and remember, these guys are doing this out of a hobby, not a job.

Now for the really interesting news… CoolJerk also had this to say.

Now, the craziest part – 4 months after the final build we have from Ofer, we have another build from POV of a never before seen Sonic title for the saturn. We don’t think this title has ever been shown off or mentioned before. We don’t even know what it looks like yet because we can’t build it until the environment is complete. But there is likely at least one more major surprise in this find.

What does this mean? It means that at one point, Sonic X-treme was to look like a completely different game, it didn’t look like all those screenshots or small video clips that have been leaked over the years, it looked like something else entirely. Not a new Sonic game, but a new direction for Sonic X-Treme.

Also, and I must stress, do not go around bugging these people, this will take a long time to complete, harassing these guys will not get it done faster, you will have to be patient and wait.

Full statement is over at Sonic Retro.

Sonic X-Treme Found “Might be possible to Play on PC’s”

This is a developing story.

Sonic X-Treme Box Art

Two weeks ago, it was reported by a user (Jollyroger) on the AssemblerGames forum that he had come into acquisition of what he believes to be Sonic X-Treme. The long and short of it is that a company by the name of ‘Point of View’ was at one point helping out with development of the PC version of the game.

This is the version which if you know the history, is running the more advanced version of the NiGHTS engine which was according to Chris Senn, vastly superior to the Saturn version which Yuji Naka was shown which prompted the projects cancellation.

The user managed to acquire this version of the game, the demo versions which were leaked a few years back are from the Saturn version of the game. (I think).

There’s just… one small problem. To play the files, the game requires some VERY specific hardware which is not easy to come by, specifically a Diamond Edge 3D NVidia NV1 video card and a NVidia NV1 SDK. How hard are these to come by? We’re talking only two on ebay with a price tag of over $200.

However… Cooljerk, member of the Sonic Retro forums has a fully working PC with those components installed and has negotiated with JR, I’m not aware of the details, but CJ believes it ‘MIGHT’ be possible to get the game working in software mode, this means anyone with a PC might be able to get the game to run.

Now, when they say ‘final build’ of the game, we’re talking ‘final’ as in ‘before it were cancelled’ build, not final as in ‘hey lets send this to the store!’ However, Sonic X-Treme was very close to completion when it was axed, so it might be a very near complete game that is in JR’s possession.

We’ll keep you upto date with any details as they become available.
