Now that the Activision Blizzard emergence is over Mike Hayes president of Sega Europe has told MCV their company could be next to acquire another company.
With Mario and Sonic reaching the Chart track number 1 spot Sega have obviously benefited from deals with another company, so can they bring in a similar result again if they acquire a company?
Here are Mike Hayes quotes from the article:
“The growth challenge is never over,” said Hayes. “Therefore like most other publishers we are always on the look-out for new signings – product or company.” Continue reading Sega looking to acquire another company?

Sega Europe have today released the long awaited official Sonic site Sonic City. ArchangelUK who recently joined Sega Europe has been teasing fans since yesterday on the Sonic City blognik with a Mystery blog entry, countdown and tiny hints. Fans at the SSMB had fun with detective work and guesses while they waited.
The end result is a site filled with Sonic goodness such as-
- Character profiles
- Games list including games of old with descriptions, fun facts and media.
- The Blognik
- An Arcade
- Sonic FM
- News articles
- An official Sonic forum is also coming soon.
Today a Japanese magazine has printed a 2 page article about NiGHTS into Dreams on the PS2. Being as we aren’t fluent in that language we can’t say if anything’s changed from the Sega Saturn version other than visuals. The only noteable thing from the screenshots is the gallery mode that looks similar to the Christmas Nights extras. IGN report there will be illustrations and a movie viewer.
The game will hit Japan 21-2-08
Sonic News will keep you up to date as more is revealed.
Bioware recently asked their forum community to provide them with some questions regarding their future and sure enough they got some questions back. Two of their guy’s Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have now answered the community’s questions in a video you can watch/download at their site.
Sonic RPG was mentioned, most importantly with this question –
“Are you guys still doing that Sonic RPG now that you have been acquired by EA?”
“So, our commitment to Sonic RPG on the DS hasn’t changed a bit – We have a great partner with SEGA and we’re looking forward to being able to show some…some sneak peaks on that game real soon.”
Thanks to spunodi at SSMB for the update.
Sonic Rivals 2 for PSP shipped out yesterday and is available at U.S. retailers now for $39.99.
Sega of America’s description for the game –
The gloves are off and Sonic and his rivals are gearing up for an intense new head-to-head competition exclusively on the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. This sequel to Sonic’s 2D action platformer features all-new “jostling” controls for tighter competition and a brand new Battle mode that allows you and a friend to jump into six different Multiplayer challenges by sharing one disc. With three new characters, 12 new stages and upgraded signature moves for each character, the enhanced Rivals experience will bring a whole new level of handheld fun to the PSP system. PlayStation 2 Official Magazine UK have a new 8 page section dedicated to Sega Superstars Tennis. In it they have new information and screenshots, the screenshots show Amy, Dr.Eggman and Super Sonic playable. Amy and Dr. Eggman’s “Shadow the Hedgehog” art is being used for their character icons, how lazy.
The mag reveals Ulala changes costume from her orange suit to a white suit and Sonic changes to Super Sonic during a match which makes both characters turn the ball sparkly. Sega had no comments on this right now. Continue reading New characters for Sega Superstars Tennis
IGN have released four new gameplay videos of Sonic Rivals 2, one of them including a story scene between Tails and Espio. Ironic to the game’s name it look’s like characters will be coupled to WORK TOGETHER –
- Sonic and Tails
- Knuckles and Rouge
- Shadow and Metal Sonic (Fan-fiction love story writers will be loving this -_-‘)
- Silver and Espio (and this -_-‘)
It also look’s like we have adventure maps like the one in Sonic Advance 2 making a return.
There is alot of voicework in these video’s(Espio sounds terrible in my oppinion) and doesn’t seem to be written very well, for example at the start of the Knockout mode battle between Sonic and Knuckles Sonic says “Let’s race”. Continue reading More new screenshots and four new Rivals 2 Videos
Sega have released some new screens of Sonic Rivals 2 which include more of Rouge and some new in-stage gimmicks such as hamster wheels, hang gliders, air boards and some pumpkin gizmo that look’s like it works the same as those logs in the first game.
We can also see two bosses, a roulette boss where Eggman doesn’t look flat like he did in Rivals 1 and a huge robot bull that chases after you and your rival.
The graphics and presentation also look alot better in these new screenshots. Will all these new features and modes make for a better game experience? I think so, it’s little in-stage gimmicks that made the old school 2D games so successful so there may be some hope for this game.
Stay tuned to Sonic News for more Rivals updates!
A new Sonic Rivals 2 trailer has shown up, it shows footage of the final 2 battle modes out of the 6 – King of the Hill and Tag Mode.
King of the Hill mode is simply battling to earn the most points and keep the highest score while Tag mode is a pass the bomb kind of affair.
Omochao also makes a guest appearance in the King of the Hill mode, I’m guessing he’s a referee because he has a flag and seems to freeze players maybe to penalize them.
In Tag Mode it look’s like each player has a timer in which the bomb will explode if they hold it which is weird. It also look’s like you can ride rockets.
Like most trailers there is no music in this one.

What these online features are is unknown but will most likely be the same as on the Wii version.
Stay tuned to Sonic News for more information as we get it.
Last month we saw Sega Europe change the release date of Sonic Rivals from 02/11/07 to 30/11/07 but now they have again changed it on their site to Winter 2007. This is the first Sonic game in a long time to have been given so much delays, could they have big plans for the game or do they simply want to perfect the game? As long as it makes the game better I’m all for it.
In other news Sega Europe have finally changed the release date for the Wii version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games on their site from Winter 2007 to 23/11/07, so it’s officially official now.
Nintendo have released a new video showcasing Wii and DS titles in Japan for 2007-2008. Among them is the first in-game footage of Sonic Riders:Zero Gravity, it’s only 3-4 seconds long and the quality is terrible but beggers can’t be choosers :p
The first thing you notice is that the HUD has been revealed. We have a meter in the bottom left with the speed count above it, which quickly fills up when Sonic uses Gravity Control, a map of the track in the top right which look’s like a simple course, something in the top left which is covered by the game name >_< and in the bottom right the position count and something I can't make out. If anyone can tell me anything else about this HUD please let me know. Continue reading Footage of Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sega of America has signed a new advertising deal with GET Interactive, a company known for its technology that allows users to buy products directly via online-enabled content.
GET’s Ad Venture technology contains links with entertainment such as music videos. You can interact with virtual products and even buy real products. GET say they are working together with Sega on a wide array of brand placements in a new videogame currently in development.
So, now begs the question of what is this new game Sega are creating? Could Sonic be starring in a new game with Tony the Tiger to stop Eggman taking over McDonalds? Only time shall tell….
