Mysterious New Sonic Title Teased for 2022

As we suspected, SEGA took the time at the very end of the Sonic Central livestream to tease the very next mainline title in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

The teaser trailer was incredibly short and did not share many details, but we do know that the unrecognisable Sonic footage in the official ‘Unstoppable’ fan trailer did end up being from this very trailer.

Sonic is seen dashing through a forest, with a strange slipstream appearing behind him. Shortly afterwards, the above glyph appears, followed by a release date of 2022. The as-yet untitled game will be landing on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.

  1. I’m guessing Sonic’s new power here is part of the story and/or a new gameplay gimmick.

  2. This will no doubt be a sequel to Rise of the Wisps which is a sequel to Colors Ultimate. Calling it now.

  3. The trees all look very realistic. Whatever we’re getting, I’m expecting the art style to lean more into Sonic 06 or Sonic Unleashed territory than Sonic Mania or Sonic Lost World. Not inherently a bad thing, but it is interesting to see that return after quite a long shift to the more cartoonish style aping the Genesis games.

  4. *Looks at the glyph.. rotates it sideways.. looks at it upside down.. holds it up to a mirror*

    … I’ll figure it out

    1. If you rotate it 90 degrees to the left, it kinda looks like a person who ducks in order to… erm…

  5. YES! Sonic’s quills are long again! no more of that Sonic lost world design!
