Paramount Japan has announced the release date of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie on both disc and digital platforms.
For Japanese movie collectors who like the feel of a box in their hands, ‘Sonic the Movie’ will launch in Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD packages on October 21. Blu-ray will cost ¥3,990 and the 4K version will set you back ¥5,990. That equates to around £28.73 ($37.63 USD) and £43.13 ($56.49 USD) respectively. Japanese home video releases are typically much more expensive than in other countries, and it looks like the Sonic movie will be no different.
Disc rentals for DVD and Blu-ray will also be available from this date. The movie will come with fresh new packages to separate it from the home video version. As you can see, the box art better reflects the localised Japanese theatrical key art. And we kinda want a copy of each to keep on our shelves now.
If you’ve decided to go all-digital with your collection though, your wait will be a little easier. Advance digital distribution of Sonic the Movie will begin as soon as September 2. You’ll be able to buy from a wide selection of stores, including Amazon Video, Xbox, PlayStation Video, Rakuten TV, Tsutaya TV, J:COM and Hikari TV as well as Apple and Google.
