Get Ready! Phantasy Star Online 2’s Getting An Expansion in 2021 Called “New Genesis”

SEGA fans may not be hearing much game news about a certain blue hedgehog, but they are getting a big Phantasy Star Online 2 expansion that is coming in 2021 to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. It’s called “New Genesis”!

The platforms it is releasing on is interesting, because it seems to depend on the region for the time being. You see, the North American trailer only mentions the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. In Japan, the trailer mentions a Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch release.

As for the expansion’s contents, it’s not a small one. They’re planning to give the graphics engine and game system an update. They’re promising “limitless adventure and unparalleled character customization”. And they’re calling this redesign a “best-in-class online action RPG experience”. They’re even calling it “the latest entry in the series“.

Of course, it’s not uncommon to see Sonic get some love in this game. Sonic’s made appearances in Phantasy Star Online 2, character outfits, and there have even been in-game events celebrating Sonic’s birthday. So, who knows? It’s very possible that the Sonic franchise could show up in some way in Phantasy Star Online 2’s new expansion someday. If you want to see the trailer, here it is:

  1. I’d rather have a new ‘main’ Phantasy Star title that doesn’t have Online in its name. PSO2 just bores me to tears.

  2. I seriously hope PSO2 releases for Playstation 5 when or before this expansion comes out
