Sonic Movie Delayed to 2020

The Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie has just been delayed. The Paramount Studios-produced flick will now release on 14th February 2020.

The news has come straight from movie director Jeff Fowler, via his Twitter channel. “Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right,” he wrote, alongside the above image revealing the new release date.

It follows the creative’s previous announcement that the design of the CGI blue blur will see a complete revamp, after the project’s initial trailer came under massive criticism.

However, the delay announcement is welcome as many fans were concerned that the artists working on the film might have had to endure intense crunch to make it for the movie’s original Fall 2019 date. Fowler used a hashtag in his tweet that suggested that VFX artists’ time will indeed be respected.

The choice of new date is particularly amusing, given that Tim Miller is associated with the Sonic movie project, who has previously used the Valentine’s Day period to release Deadpool.

  1. I think we can all agree that a three-month delay is a small price to pay if it means we get a better end result, and I think we can also all agree that the designers and animators deserve to have the time and opportunity to do the job properly instead of rushing to meet a deadline.

  2. Thank *Gods* they decided to delay the movie’s release for this. I didn’t want those poor animators and artists to have to risk their health to crunch this redesign out.

  3. A wise decision if you ask me. While I did like Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, the design was a little weird. It looks like they’re planning to give him gloves, that’s a good improvement. The only other change I’d make to the current design is to make his face closely resemble the look that everyone’s familiar with.

  4. Take all the time you need to make it. 20 years, 50 years, never, it’s all good.

  5. I think it’s a good idea to delay til 2-14-20 to make the Sonic the Hedgehog Design to look right and decent they don’t want to disappoint the fans of Sonic I think it will take time and effort to make Sonic like himself besides they want to sell this movie to make millions of dollars and making this Sonic Movie Design will take alot of work and time and sweat and patience we will hope when the new Trailer drops we will see the redesign of the brand new Sonic Design Movie it will b lit

  6. I have super duper high hopes for this. I’m such a pollyanna… but I live on high vibrational energy and I hope this movie will be the best video game movie ever. Hindsight is 2020. This decade has been a drag and it has been a drag for me personally. Things got way better for me in 2017. I hope for 2020 to be an amazing year and the 2020s should be the decade for Sonic. We shall see my friends.

  7. …. is this a hint they’ve given him gloves now?? I just really want to see the new design. I’m glad they’re taking their time to improve it.

  8. Amazing news! Fowler and the team have my respects, even if this movie is not a huge hit at least they listened to fan feedback and tried to make it better.

  9. Judging from the fact hes got a glove on his hand….makes it seem theres a chance their going to give him gloves and make him look more like the original design we all know, expect he would have blue arms.

I just hope they fix his voice to make him less human sounding
