New Enemy Character and Green Hill Zone 2 Revealed for Sonic Mania

The Sonic the Hedgehog social media pages have revealed the origin of yesterday’s teaser image of a leg, with the owner of the appendage being a new Badnik on the Block, named Heavy Gunner. HG is part of the Hard Boiled Heavies, who while no further detail was given, will no doubt be antogonists of Sonic and friends in the new game.

The stipulation that he is a member of this team alludes to there being more egg-shaped robots to face-off against throughout Mania, possibly akin to the Egg Robot in Sonic & Knuckles.

Additionally, a video was also released today showing off some of Green Hill Zone Act 2 (see below), in which the zone takes place against a vista backdrop paying homage to the Green Hill Zone beta design.

We continue to look forward to hearing more information on Sonic Mania (and the accompanying music to this zone) – and as always, stay tuned!

  1. Huh, didn’t see that one coming. Still, I like that idea, it’s a fun way of giving Sonic an array of demi-antagonists akin to Mario’s Koopalings…without them being 2-dimensional Zetti.

  2. wish the game look more like sonic 3 and knuckles, the characters look well develop. And what s with the flame shield disappearing and reappear every couple of sec, and them been underwater doesnt look underwater

  3. Okay, I take back my criticism of the remixed levels. It’s still stupid that they take up the majority of the level lineup but they are anything like Green Hill Act 2 (being “the tamest” remix apparently) then sign me up.

I think the new bad guy is a little too detailed but still pretty cute.

  4. …Not to be a nitpicker… but why on earth would you place a fire shield underneath a waterfall?

I know it’s technically behind the waterfall- but still. xD

    1. Eh, the E-100 series were just a bunch of Egg Robo knockoffs and people ate those up.
