Sonic Boom Season Two Coming Fall 2016

Toy manufacturer Tomy have revealed that the season two of the popular Sonic Boom cartoon is scheduled to launch Fall 2016.

Announced to be getting a second season last year, Tomy revealed via a flyer at Toy Fair 2016 the cartoon was scheduled to return later this year – only a year after it finished its initial season run of 52 episodes. Photographer Paul Nicholasi snapped the photo while taking various photographs of the Tomy booth.

Tomy also confirms the show has found a digital distribution partner in Hulu set to arrive Spring 2016, meaning you’ll get to binge all the episodes back to back very soon as well. There’s unfortunately no word on dates or video-on-demand distributors outside of the US.

The cartoon is undoubtedly one of the most successful aspects of the Sonic Boom brand, earning a positive critical reception from fans and viewers alike. The show’s premiere in US was one of the most popular in the 9-to-14 bracket and among boys 6-to-11, and has maintained momentum since.

  1. Woo! I hope the production values have increased and that we see more of Shadow & Metal Sonic. 🙂

  2. Finally, Boom is digital. No more worrying about waking up early. At least for people who have Hulu, anyway.

I feel like Season 1 laid down a good foundation for Boom. It took longer than it ought to, but eventually, it established who its main characters were and how they should be used in each episode. It also provided a lot of good writing and animation. But its not perfect– again, it took too long to establish the characters and some still remain flat like Shadow. There’s also the matter of pacing, namely, its pretty terrible. The plots range from rushed to lingering too long on one moment. But hey, Season 2 is when shows typically try to expand while fixing their problems, and I expect no less from Boom. Hope Season 2 is better than Season 1!

Also, I hope I don’t come off as dumb, but what does it mean to be a “SVOD partner?”

  3. Can’t wait to see how they’ve stepped up their game-uh, I mean show, since the second half of season one. If nothing else, I hope they stay as good as they finished at the very least. Otherwise I really can’t wait to see in what ways the show and writing has improved and what new ideas they might have in store. Maybe they might do a few more dramatic storylines, or maybe they’ll up the ante with some new gags. Either way, it’s passed the 1st season test so far, now it’s got to pass the 2nd season test. This one can usually be the most challenging, so hopefully they have a good arsenal waiting in the hangar, so to speak.

  4. EH Fall… Seeing as though I measure time with the airing date of Sonic cartoons and the release of Sonic video games, 2015 really didn’t exist for me. 2016 is the year of Sonic Boom Season 2 and Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice.
