2-8 Players Online Confirmed For Sonic Free Riders

SEGA has revealed on its Tokyo Game Show website that their upcoming Xbox 360 Kinect title, Sonic Free Riders will support 2-8 players in its online multiplayer mode. This is 4 players less than Xbox.com originally stated on their website, before the information was quickly removed, but it’s still a good total that most racers support. This is an exciting new feature for the Sonic Riders series, but with the game being restricted to Kinect, will the lobbies remain very busy for long? That will depend on the success of Kinect.

Has this feature gathered your interest in the game? Let us know in the comments.

  1. This is what I think’s gonna happen. Kinect will come out and not many people will buy it at it’s release date. However, after a month or so I think everyone will start to see the true advantages and thrills of Kinect and get one for Christmas. And Sonic Free Riders is a must have Kinect game! I’ve looked at all of the upcoming Kinect games but none of them takes as much advantage of Kinect as Sonic Free Riders does. So, I think the lobby’s will be busy for a while just like Sonic & SEGA Racing did.

  2. well when it comes to the lobbies…the lobbie mechanism in marvel vs capcom 2 are just plain horrible. :/ i stay getting kicked.

  3. I was hoping to see this confirmed. It only takes ones friend to keep a game like this fun. Hopefully, being a more ‘fun’ oriented Kinect title, they’ll cut out the ridiculous Ranked and Player matches and allow you to unlock Achievements and increase any online stats while having fun with friends.

I would’ve picked this up anyway, but now I’m a lot more excited about this.

  4. I’m less interested in Kinect after I saw how terrible it was at PAX. But if there’s a REALLY good game or two that can convince me, I’ll definately pick this up.

  5. I think there are a lot who don’t want a Kinect and some who just don’t want to pay a lot of money. However this is not a problem with KINECT itself. This is with the gaming industry in general. The technology and hardware is only reasonable to debut with such a price.

However, I believe there are a lot of others who do want Kinect and some who are okay with buying it, and the rest is like CyberGW said. =)

Kinect’s biggest advantage is online gameplay. Now you’re physically interracting with people online as if they were right next to you.

As for 8 players, well it’s definately interesting to be racing against way more than just computers. That’s a big highlight for this installment of the Riders series, yes? 😀

  6. @ Ax
Well Kinect has a 1-2 second lag which really brings down the experience.
Also most gamers nowadays learned with Wii and Eyetoy that they just want to sit on their butts and press buttons on an old fashioned controller.
There are already reviews which slammed Kinect, because of this lag.
