Apparently Brazil are STILL crazy for old tech. Sega’s distributor and licensee for games in the South America region, Tectoy, are back with a vengeance and have announced a brand new Master System model. Imaginitively titled the ‘Master System 3′, the console will resemble something of a cross between a Mega Drive and a 3DO, with two six-button pads, 131 built-in MS games and a picture of Sonic the Hedgehog painted on the top.

There’s no cartridge slot for inserting old games, so you’ll have to make do with the ones already pre-loaded – all said to be G-rated games. Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Drift 2 (a Game Gear-only release outside of Brazil – Tectoy were famous for porting GG games over to the Master System) are among the Sonic games you can access on the console, with other titles including the Alex Kidd series, Enduro Racer, New Zealand Story and Cyber Shinobi. Cyber Shinobi!!!

It actually looks quite funky. Collector’s item for the Sonic fan? You (or T-Bird) decide. Probably not worth it’s asking price though – equivalent of £72.

The Sega Homebrew community are currently working on a new Mega Drive and Mega CD game called Pier Solar and plan to release it on cartridge for Mega Drive and of course CD for Mega CD. The game is not licensed, produced or endorsed by Sega so I don’t know how they plan on mass producing it on cartridge and CD to the public.

Anyway, the game is an anime stype RPG and look’s quite good from the screenshots and trailer. The guys have even made an official website for the game.

The game is set for a Fall 2008 release.

In other news Sega have re-released Boarder Down on to their Dreamcast console, the game looks to be produced on the Dreamcasts GD-Rom disks. The game is released today at 7,140 yen.

Stay tuned to Sonic News for further developments!

Bioware recently asked their forum community to provide them with some questions regarding their future and sure enough they got some questions back. Two of their guy’s Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have now answered the community’s questions in a video you can watch/download at their site.

Sonic RPG was mentioned, most importantly with this question -
“Are you guys still doing that Sonic RPG now that you have been acquired by EA?”

Answer?

“So, our commitment to Sonic RPG on the DS hasn’t changed a bit – We have a great partner with SEGA and we’re looking forward to being able to show some…some sneak peaks on that game real soon.”

Thanks to spunodi at SSMB for the update.

To me, the screen looks even smaller then a Gameboy Micros!

The Brazilian company Tec Toys announced today that they are to be releasing a sort of SEGA Nomad device which lets you play 20 built in Mega Drive/Genesis titles on December 5th.

The device will retail for (a hefty) $110, around £55 if translated into UK currency. Using three AAA batteries for power, it also includes an apparent Hi-Definition screen with ports allowing you to hook up the video and audio to a television set.

See the full list of games at SEGA Nerds.com

To me, the device doesn’t look like it’s worth £55 what-so-ever. It would defiantly be cool to carry twenty classic Mega Drive games around with you wherever you go, but with no Comix Zone, Vectorman, Cool Spot or Dynamite Headdy I don’t think I personally will be buying.

Do any of you guys think it’d be worth the cash to re-live the golden days on to go?

Remember that Samba game rumor we reported awhile back? Well, it’s recently been confirmed. The latest issue of Nintendo Power confirmed that Sonic Team’s cult classic rhythm game will indeed be heading to the Wii in an all new sequel, developed by Gearbox, makers of the critically acclaimed acclaimed Brothers in Arms franchise. While it remains to be seen how these developers will go from gritty WW2 tactical shooters to a colorful light hearted rhythm game, Samba is certainly a perfect fit for the Wii.

The sequel will contain both old and new songs, but anything outside of that is currently unknown. Samba was listed in GameStop’s date base with a Febuary release date, although it remains to be seen whether that date was official or speculatory. The only date given by Nintendo Power is “2008″.

Well, as most people in the UK know, CiTV were showing Sonic X on Wednesdays. Cool, but a bit of a bugger after Fox Kids decided to show it 4:30pm every day a week or so ago.

Episode 13 has passed and gone, and it seems both Fox Kids and CiTV don’t want to go past it, as Fox Kids are already showing repeats.

CiTV will be showing reruns of Sonic X starting Monday at 3:40pm every day, AND it won’t be the 5-minute cut version. It will be the 25 minute long, as-long-as-the-US-version… version.

Who knows if FK and CiTV plan on showing more? I reckon CiTV are playing a set of reruns to attract people who missed out the first time, or just want to see the extra ‘uncut’ version, then continuing the series. Which would be a good idea.
