  1. Late last year, multiple U.S. retailers posted listings for a Sonic Prime Season 1 blu-ray, though without any details or cover for the physical release of Sonic's latest animated series. Since then, the Amazon listing has been updated with a spiffy cover design that shares a few more details about the release. Or rather, that it seems like there may not be much in the way of further details. While NCircle's release of Sonic Boom still offered a few animatics and trailers, Sonic Prime's release is absolutely vanilla. You'll still get DTS-HD 5.1 audio and subtitles for the eight episodes, but no additional features are listed on the box or on the product page. Further, for the fans that prefer a non-English voice cast, the release only lists English as its language. However, the set will still offer those without Netflix a chance to see the show when it ships on March 12, and collectors a chance to own it physically. You can currently pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and now Target. Though... it seems like Target's listing (at time of writing) is showing off a rather... unusual version of the cover. 3. If you don't expect to catch the series on Amazon, or if you're simply looking to collect a physical copy, NCircle (who recently published Sonic Boom on blu-ray) will soon be releasing the first season of Sonic Prime on blu-ray in the U.S. Though details are light at the moment, the disc will release on March 12th, with pre-orders available now via Barnes & Noble and Amazon at a standard price of $19.99. The set presumably covers the first eight episodes (Amazon's listing cites a 198-minute runtime, accounting for the 44-minute first episode, and seven 22-minute episodes). Sonic Prime's first season is a little more than a year old now, having launched onto Netflix streaming Dec. 15, 2022. The series' third and final season will premiere next month, Jan. 11, 2024. 5. Next year is going to mark 20 years since Sonic X premiered. The show ended long ago, but Discotek has confirmed a Blu-ray release of the Japanese version of the show! All 78 episodes of it, and with English subtitles! How is this possible? Well, Discotek Media says that they licensed the show. And if the information they've provided about the Blu-ray release is any indicator, they're taking full advantage of this. As previously mentioned, it's all 78 episodes from the series in Japanese, including English subtitles. The subtitles are based on Hulu's but more revised and polished. They even added signs, translated commercial bumpers, and even translated NEPs! And that's still not all. The release includes both the Japanese and English pilot episodes. Discotek mentions that all of the episodes were restored as much as possible in the highest quality they could do. That said, they confirmed that the quality is SD-BD. As for the audio, it's 5.1 for "episodes that have it from the old JP Hi-Spec DVDs", along with 2.0 mixes. Of course, the last thing confirmed was the release date. It isn't a specific date yet, but Discotek confirmed that you'll be able to get your hands on it in Winter 2023! So, if you don't have any physical media from Sonic X yet, you'll have a good opportunity to do so next year. Via Twitter
  6. Sonic cartoon collectors won’t have to wait too much longer for Discotek’s “Sonic X: The Complete Series Japanese Language Collection” blu-ray set. Both Amazon and RightStuf list its release date as April 25 at an MSRP of $59.95. As a sweetener at time of writing, RightStuf’s pre-order is on sale for $41.97. While the subtitled version is available on Hulu, Discotek previously announced this release will include revised and fixed subtitles with translations of written text, high quality restored SD video, 5.1 audio, and a plethora of additional video features including commercials, original pilots, and more. The release follows the Discotek’s “Sonic X: The Complete Series English Language Collection” blu-ray set; however, the 4kids Productions dub contains intrusive edits that make a direct language track swap incompatible.
