  1. Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to go over some minor rule changes that will be happening in terms of IDW Sonic discussions! Hopefully, this will make things a lot easier for people to follow, give a more localised hub of discussion, and further integrate our news team's articles with discussion! So What's the Problem? It's come to staff's attention over the past few months, especially with the much higher number of spin-off and one-shot issues that's dropping that the current system of IDW discussion isn't working out quite like we would have hoped. If you've been with the community for awhile, you may have remembered that there was initially a megathread that was dedicated towards IDW discussion, but with the introduction of multiple sub-forums for comic discussion, the megathread was essentially rendered pointless, as we instead asked for individual threads to be made for each issue. However, therein lies the problem. While this has been working better than the mega-thread, it's now had the opposite effect, where discussion has become too spread out, and as a result, multiple threads is coming up relating to each issue, to the point where three/four threads could spread up for a singular issue. Furthermore, a lot of these topics tend to just have a rather simple OP, simply being a image and one sentence and nothing else, which isn't much up to the standards the site's staff wish to encourage when we want people to be trying to open discussions up in regards to issues. So that is more or less the main issue - irrelevant threads, no singular hub for discussion, multiple pieces of discussion in multiple threads, and so on, and it is where these changes will try to fix things. Rule Changes: So, to put things rather simply, the big change that's going to occur going forwards is this: Each issue of the comic will now be permitted only two topics. Further topics will be locked. Specifically, the two topics that each issue of IDW and any other comics will be the following: Announcement/Pre-Release Topic (Created when the solicitation of the issue drops) Official Discussion Topic (Created on release day) The topic in particular this will effect is the third one that usually crops up - the Release Day topic, which simply serves as a announcement that a issue has released, making it a primarily pointless topic that just exists to split discussion between it and the Reader Review topic. In essence, this will create two primary hubs for discussion, the pre-release speculation and news discussion, and the post-release discussion. How will this affect topic creation going forwards? Going forwards, this will not have too much of an effect on topic creation. Anyone can create a topic for the pre-release/announcement of a issue, and drop it in the news forum, where if it's informative enough, it will likely then be turned into a news article by the site's news team, complete with Tipster credit. However, Official Discussion topics from here on will be handled by the site's staff, and any additional topics regarding release/discussion will be merged into the official discussion topic. So please bare this in mind in future. Furthermore, the news team will take the discussion topic and turn it into a news article for release on the site. I'm confused, should these topics and corresponding discussion be in Sonic Chat or Sonic News Subforum? This is a fair question, and to put it simply - official comic discussion from here on will be treated as part of the news subforum, as it's officially released material from the series. This means both the pre-release discussion, and post-release official discussion will both be placed in the Comic News subforum, and will be promoted both in Our Picks, and the news portion of the site to promote conversation. Both the pre-release and official discussion topics will be pinned in the News subforum until a new issue's release, to which it will then be unpinned a month post-release. But I rely on the release topic as a reminder! This is where we want to encourage members to start utilising the site's release calendar function in order to help mark every issue's release date. You can also set yourself helpful reminders as well so the site will notify you whenever a new issue is about to release! You also get a nice ring payout for creating calendar events, so help us out by submitting new issues’ release dates into it! In Summary: So in summary, the changes is relatively simple: There will now only be two topics per comic issue - a announcement/pre-release discussion topic, and a Official Discussion topic on the release day. While anyone is free to make the announcement/pre-release topic and gain a News Tipster credit if they tip the staff off to the story, SSMB staff will be the ones who create the Official Discussion topic leading up to release. This will likely be created prior to release, locked, and unlocked on the day of the comic's release. Spoiler warnings will be in place for official discussion topics, so be aware that unmarked spoilers may be present in them. Head to the pre-release/announcement discussion for spoiler-free discussion. Any additional topics made for issues such as release announcements day of release will now be locked/merged with the official discussion. The staff would like to encourage everyone to use the site's events/calendar function to make release events for the issues, and set reminders for release dates. Thank you for reading, and we hope you continue discussing the Sonic comics!
  2. There has been rumors of a remake of Sonic Generations for a few days now, and they have only gotten more interesting as we found out that there's going to be some bonus Shadow content. Well, it's not a rumor anymore. SEGA has officially announced Sonic X Shadow Generations! The announcement, which was made in Sony's new State of Play presentation, didn't have anything shocking if you knew of the rumors. But there was still plenty of things that Shadow fans, and especially Sonic Adventure era fans, are able to gush over. In fact, Shadow, not Modern and Clasic Sonic, was the main star of this trailer. The vast majority of the trailer featured his campaign. And speaking of his campaign, "a brand-new story" awaits with Shadow. We didn't get to see many levels, but we did get some footage of what looks to be Final Chase. We also got to see the return of Black Doom and Biolizard, both of which seem to be bosses that Shadow will have to fight. However, SEGA didn't really reveal anything else, so we'll probably see more of Shadow's campaign in the coming months. So, when will we be able to play this? Well, SEGA confirmed that it will be releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC this autumn. It's more than likely that we will learn more about the game in the coming months, so make sure you stick with us as we cover what is very obviously going to be another busy year for Sonic fans! 4. This is such a sudden announcement and I can't believe this is official. I wonder what happens now? Who will replace Charles?
  5. The Sonic news train just keeps on chugging. With the drip-feed of Sonic Frontiers news far from done, SEGA has decided to drop a sudden announcement of a Sonic Central broadcast happening tomorrow. Now, it is worth noting that Sonic Frontiers will probably be seen in some way here. However, it won't be limited to just that. Even SEGA themselves said that there will be “a sneak peek at some of the upcoming projects, partnerships, and events happening in 2022". via Twitter It's possible that we might get a detail or two of Sonic Origins. It's also possible that Sonic Prime may be seen in this. And as previously mentioned, Sonic Frontiers will likely be making an appearance as part of the drip-feed of news that the game is getting this month. We also don't know how long the presentation will be exactly. We do, however, know that it will be beginning at Noon Eastern. In other time zones, this is 9am Pacific, and 5pm UK time. It also happens to be the same time that IGN will be releasing some hands-on impressions of Sonic Frontiers. Whether this is purely a coincidence is another matter entirely, but it is going to be a lot of Sonic news to take in in just an hour. Nevertheless, we'll be around to let you know of anything important that will be reveal tomorrow. Stay tuned! via Twitter
  6. Geoff Keighley has announced that Sonic Frontiers will be receiving a world premiere neww look during Gamescom Opening Night Live!, which will run on August 23 at 7PM BST/2PM EST/11AM PST. Little else is currently known about this, though it will presumably show off some never-before-seen stuff from the game. We'll keep you posted of any new developments!
  7. IDW shared a surprise announcement during its SDCC 2023 Sonic the Hedgehog panel - a celebration of Fang and Knuckles in a one-shot anniversary special, planned for release next year! The reveal was made courtesy of the below photo, which was taken by SDCC 2023 reporter 'FloofToon15' for Twitter account 'IDWSonicNews', shows a teaser image of what to expect - featuring silhouettes of Fang the Hunter (as he's now known we guess) and Knuckles the Echidna, alongside a red '30th' logo. As 2024 would mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Sonic 3 and Sonic Triple Trouble video games (in which Knuckles and Fang debuted respectively), it's clear that this is going to be a very special comic indeed. No other details were revealed about this particular match-up, although if it follows IDW's previous anniversary one-shot for Amy Rose and Metal Sonic we could see a story that could pair the two characters up together in an interesting new adventure. We certainly can't wait to learn more! via IDWSonicNews (Twitter)

  9. Hi everyone, hope you're all having a great week! This is a quick notice to let all Sonic Stadium members know that we will be sunsetting the ability for users to sign up for accounts and log in using social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook. That means that soon you will need to ensure you have your own independent password and login credentials in order to continue using the Sonic Stadium. What? We will sunset the ability to sign up to and sign in to the Sonic Stadium using a third-party service on September 1, 2023. You will still be able to share your social media handles within your Sonic Stadium account. We will also be sunsetting the ability to sign in using your Discord account, but you will still be able to connect a Discord account to your Sonic Stadium account for server benefits and this change should not affect any existing Discord connections. Starting September 1, 2023 you will need to know both a login email address and a password in order to sign in to your Sonic Stadium account. What Do I Need To Do? You only need to take action if you are currently using a third-party service to log in and use the Sonic Stadium (Twitter, Facebook, Google, Discord). You will be able to tell if this is the case by visiting the User Menu > Account Settings > Security and Privacy and checking the method in which your account is requesting you verify. If you are being asked to sign in using a service like the above, instead of entering a password, you will be affected by this change and need to take action. Please confirm the email address associated with the third-party service you are using to sign into the Sonic Stadium (for Google it would be your gmail address, for Twitter and Facebook it would be the email address associated with your account on those platforms) You may also be able to find this information by going to your Sonic Stadium User Menu > Account Settings > Email Address. Sign out of your Sonic Stadium account, and click this link to head to the Lost Password page (you can also find the "Lost Password" link on the Sign In page) Enter the email address you have associated with your third-party service, from before. We will send you an email that will offer you to reset (or in this case, set) a password for your account. Click "Reset my password", then follow the instructions. You can now sign in to Sonic Stadium using this new password, and your account is future-proofed for the third-party service sunset on September 1. Why? It is clear that, over the years, social media platforms have not turned out to be the essential, permanent and secure portals we were led to believe. Recent events with Twitter in particular, and its changes to how third-party platforms can access its API, have effectively broken almost all of the connectivity we used to rely on for SSMB - and it has inspired us to take another look at the login methods we have on the site. While removing Twitter login/sign-up and connectivity is a matter of necessity - it literally no longer functions, so there's no point keeping it - for the other platforms it allows us an opportunity to revisit the relevance in allowing other platforms to maintain your Sonic Stadium access credentials for you. Facebook, for example, is more trouble than its worth with a rapidly declining relevance and a difficult and ever-changing set of connectivity rules. Meanwhile, we have identified that Google sign-in has been an entry point for a number of spam accounts over the past few months, and while we are bolstering our spam defences in other ways we feel that disconnecting this feature will go some way to saving us all an unnecessary headache. In a world where more people are using 2FA and password managers, it's also no longer a burden to be holding individual accounts for different websites and services. The best person to be in control of your account access, after all, is you. What If I Need Help? Please feel free to get in touch with us by shooting an email to support@sonicstadium.org with the Subject line, "Sonic Stadium Account Help". Please be patient as responses may be delayed depending on the number of emails we receive. Please Prepare for September 1, 2023. Many thanks for reading!
  10. It's finally been announced! The next main Sonic the Hedgehog game will be called 'Sonic Heroes' and will feature simultaneous three-character play where you control Sonic, Tails and Knuckles at the same time! It will also be the first truly multi-platform Sonic title as it will be coming to Nintendo Gamecube as well as Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox! A new Game Boy Advance game has also been revealed by SEGA today, called 'Sonic Battle'. As you might expect, it's actually a fighting game, where you play in large arenas using special attacks to beat up your opponents. You can play as one of eight characters - including Sonic, Tails and Knuckles - and multiplayer action is included using the GBA Link Cable. An expansive story mode will also feature in the game. Unlike Sonic Heroes, we actually have a couple of screenshots for this one right here for you! And it looks like Shadow is in this game too! Check them out! All of this has come from a press release SEGA Europe shared today, outlining the company's MASSIVE presence at E3 2003 next month. On top of these two brand new games, Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Pinball Party will also be on the SEGA show floor, along with the recently-announced Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and the Phantasy Star Online card game spin-off for Gamecube (called 'Phantasy Star Online Episode III: CARD Revolution'). Beyond Sonic Team games, SEGA will be showing off many more games in its sports, arcade and console lineup, including Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, Headhunter Redemption, Worms 3D, NFL/NBA/NHL 2K4 and remakes of classics like Altered Beast and Vectorman. It really does sound like SEGA is going into third-party publisher mode all guns blazing! We can't wait to see what all of these 20+ games look and play like. It's an exciting time to be a Sonic and SEGA fan, for sure. Check out all the details for all of the games SEGA has prepared for E3 in the press release quoted below.
  11. You might remember the existence of a mysterious 'Giant Egg' in a release list from SEGA last month. Well, now we know what it actually is - it's a brand new 3D platform game from Sonic Team and Yuji Naka called 'Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg'. According to a press release announcing the game (via Gamespot), you'll be controlling a character called Billy "who must save a once magical kingdom from an evil king who is threatening to plunge it into an eternal night." "Players will roll eggs around the world as they progress, using them to solve puzzles and fight enemies. Eventually, they'll be able to hatch magical creatures from them that will enhance Billy's abilities." Sounds eggs-quisite. Heh heh heeeeeh. Quote time! Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is planned for a release in the fall, and will be a Nintendo Gamecube exclusive. via TSSZ
  12. SEGA of America has announced that Sonic Team's latest Mega Drive game compilation, Sonic Mega Collection, will indeed be coming to the West later this year on Nintendo Gamecube. The company also revealed a shortlist of games that will come on the disc, confirming the list we previously reported. There's that list again, in case you need a reminder: Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Sonic & Knuckles Sonic 3D Blast Sonic Spinball Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine We're really looking forward to connecting with the classic Sonic platforming games once again on modern platforms, so we're keen to learn more about how the Sonic Mega Collection will be packaged up in terms of presentation. When we hear more, we'll let you know right here. Via Gamespot
  13. Hold on to your butts - SEGA has announced not only a sequel to Sonic Advance on the Game Boy Advance, but also a special compilation of classic Sonic games on Gamecube called 'Sonic Mega Collection'! The news comes in a triple-blast of reveals as Sonic Team decided to unleash a whole bunch of games at once. All for Nintendo platforms, the SEGA studio also announced that a form of Sonic Adventure is also coming to Gamecube. So that's three games! Full details are scarce right now, so we don't know what kind of games will be included in Sonic Mega Collection, nor do we know whether 'Sonic Adventure' will be a port or a brand new game (although if it was the former, given Sonic Adventure 2 is already on Gamecube it makes sense that this will be the original Dreamcast title). No media or anything on Sonic Advance 2 either, although we suspect this is coming soon. According to SEGA's website, more will be shared on these games at the next World Hobby Fair in Japan on Saturday July 13th and Sunday July 14th. The reveals were reported on by Gaming Age, which writes: Get excited, 3 more Sonic games! Keep visiting The Sonic Stadium for more news.
