Dreamcast Dead?
Right, at first glance this all seems like a mutiny induced scam by Sega to lose your faith in it (the company). But, as this massive news special will soon explain, the odds are all in the favour of the Dreamcasters. First off, the rumours and stories and whatnot (that sounds SO English. Wait, I AM English!).
Right so here we go. A while back people have been hammering on at the fact that Dreamcast won’t live much longer. Faithful DC owners (i.e. me) have been hoping for all this rumour to clear. Next came the ultimate insult in rumours. Sega making games for other consoles. BEEEEEAAAAAATTTTTCCCCCCHHHHH! was the cry of many across the globe, and NOW the rumour mill is having a feild day, with stories that the Dreamcast will be obsolete come March and everyone will lose interest. Now you heard the stories, here is (what seems to be at the moment) truth.
Well, the rumour of Dreamcast won’t live much longer IS true. That is only because of the fact that Sega are only discontinuing THE CONSOLES. The truth of the matter is that Sega lose mucho money on each DC sold across the world, due to continuous price cuts. So, Sega are to stop making the consoles, with them being sold until the very last one is off the shelves. That will be phase one of their debt destroying plan.
Another matter is the story of Sega making for other consoles. Well, the if the story of world share dominance has eluded you, than a while back Sega told the world that they will distribute DC hardware to electrical equipment such as set top boxes and mobile phones, even the Game Boy Advance, due out this summer. While XBox at the moment aren’t getting the Sega treatment, PS2 and possibly Gamecube will get some software originally released on DC. Do not fear, they will be old titles, the first being Crazy Taxi on PS2, so don’t expect the likes of Shenmue for a good few years, if ever.
Now the insult rumour. THIS is completely false at present, with Sega well into at least 100 new titles for DC such as Jet Set Radio 2, House of the Dead 3, ToeJam & Earl III, Shenmue 3 being the most anticipated. If anything, Sega see Dreamcast as it’s number ONE priority at the moment, with conversions to other consoles a great time AFTER the original Sega game has hit DC. Isn’t that a lot better? ^_^
