SUMMER OF SONIC: Saturday 9th August 2008 | |

The Summer of Sonic is officially on track. We have a date, and we have a place. The date of the Summer of Sonic event will be Saturday 9th August 2008 at the Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust (nearest London Tube station: Holburn). Times are yet to be fully confirmed, but the event will start at 10am until an as-yet unspecified time in the afternoon (4pm, maybe 5 or 6 if we can push it). We're still finalising the entire contents of the event, so I'll let you know in a few days. For those of you that aren't yet aware, the Summer of Sonic is a project I initiated back in 2006 - a website which asked the entire Sonic community to come together in celebration of Sonic's 15th Anniversary. Now, I'm heading up a Community Meetup under the same name, but unlike any we've held before. For one thing, a pub's not involved for once! Like many other Community Meetups we've had in the past, the Summer of Sonic aims to simply be a single place where fellow Sonic fans can meet each other 'in real life' and just kick back anc chillax. Most of the things we'll have at the event will simply be items there to facilitate that - we're having a Sonic games corner for people to play past titles on Mega Drive etc (maybe you want to challenge your age-old Internet friend to a Sonic 2 race!), a place for people to chill reading Sonic comics (and relive the best of STC and Archie) and an Art section where you can chat to your mates while taking part in art contests (or just scribbling Vector trying to find a Computer Room or something). But we also have some real special things planned as well. Things so special, they have to be Secret Squirrel'd for now. But alongside this massive project I have some awesome support from many members of the community willing to chip in to the cause, including TSSNET Staff such as Urtheart, Roareye Black and T-Bird, fellow communities such as Sonic Cage Dome and Sonic Yoda, and even AAUK from the Sonic Wrecks/SEGA crowd. With our powers combined, Have I got your attention? Cool. =) Now here's the fun part: a while ago I asked for a preliminary list of people who said they would go to an event like Summer of Sonic. To give me an idea if such a project would be worth undertaking. Now that it is a reality, I want to know how many of you guys are able to actually turn up.
