| Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Developer: Sonic Team, Sega Technical Institute Platform: Sega Mega Drive EU Release: Nov 1992 | US Release: 24 Nov 1992 | JP Release: 21 Nov 1992
Unlike most game sequels the second Sonic the Hedgehog game is actually BETTER than its prequel. Featuring a new character, Miles ‘Tails’ Prower, and a new two player mode there’s a lot to keep you occupied. Robotnik starts again by capturing all of Sonic’s furry friends and turning them into robots. But now he has something more sinister involved. These robots are needed to work on his latest scheme, the Death Egg! But he hasn’t found the Chaos Emeralds yet, and that’s a good thing. Sonic and Tails have come to stop Robotnik, gain the Chaos Emeralds and destroy his Death Egg for good! |

Characters
| Sonic the Hedgehog The blue blur returns with more moves than the first game. With Robotnik exacting his revenge by building a huge doomsday machine, Sonic has no choice but to stop him at all costs. He is introduced to the poisonous Mega Mack and Silver Sonic en route to the Death Egg. He can use the power of the Chaos Emeralds once he obtains them all. |
| Miles ‘Tails’ Prower A new character, Miles Prower is best known as ‘Tails’ to his friends because of his abnormally constructed two tails. Because of these, he has the ability to fly for short periods. Much younger than Sonic, he thinks of the hedgehog as his hero and strives to be like him. |
| Dr. Robotnik / Eggman Obviously feeling a little bit peeved for suffering in Sonic 1 (but probably thankful for his lanky legs), Robotnik has begun once again to capture woodland animals for robots, and has succeeded in controlling factories, refineries and cities on the island. The only thing he lacks for total domination are the seven Chaos Emeralds… |
In Wing Fortress Zone, a silver robotic version of Sonic is introduced, called “Mecha Sonic”. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is its only appearance. Sonic can transform into a ‘Super’ form of himself once he obtains the seven Chaos Emeralds. See the sections below for more details.
