Now this is some achievement. Tagging along the Phantasy Star moniker that helped made Sega famous, this game is the world's very first console online multi-player. By that, I mean that co-operation is the key in this RPG. Unlike it's inspirational game, Diablo, when you play online you don't beat each other to hell - you help each other out to solve puzzles in each dungeon or task set out for you. A breakthrough in videogaming indeed, indeed. And one that only the likes of Sonic Team can do, it seems. God we love 'em. Mind you, PSO has been SEGA's real cash cow lately, with countless iterations ported onto as many platforms as possible! The Dreamcast original remains the most entertaining though. Just because.
| Game Re-Releases: PSO v2 (Dreamcast - REL: Aug 2001 JPN, 25th Sep 2001 USA, Mar 2002 EUR), PSO Episode I & II (GCN/XBOX - REL: 2002 JPN, 2002 USA, 2003 EUR), Phantasy Star: Blue Burst (PC - 2004) |
