Another developer says "always on" is included in the new Xbox...

Reading that, it sounds more like he is giving his opinion on the issue not confirming it. And him saying that people are not going to be surprised seems to be more about the specs of the console not the always online feature.

He's currently working on a new game for the new Xbox. He would said this "always online" is nonsense or a complete misunderstanding if it wasn't true. He even said the decision was "very brave" from Microsoft.

He also said:

Even looking at countries like Poland ... there are people who do not have internet, but probably most of them know that it wouldn't even make sense in their case to own a current-gen console, because without the internet you have like half of it [the experience].

He wouldn't have mentioned this if it wasn't an issue.

While this is true, you really have to pay attention to the rest of his answer. He doesn't confirm it or deny it, he just gives his two cents on the matter and said that Microsoft is brave if they decide to do it. His answer about Poland is just an example of why it would be a bad idea.

Even down the line he said he can't speak about what the next Xbox would do. So are you honestly telling me he can speak and confirm about a feature that is controversial and not the others?

But he could say something like "I don't think Microsoft would do this, but if they did..." That's not confirming or denying anything, but as it least give us a hint. As I said, he is currently working on the new Xbox so he should definitely know about the always-online.

He would definitely know, but he also very definitely would not be allowed to say anything about it until Microsoft says something themselves. Even dropping hints could break the NDA, depending on how obnoxious it was written (and it's Microsoft, so I assume very obnoxiously).

I think he's also stating his opinion that people who don't use online versions of games or multiplayers are missing out on part of the games they buy.

Which is sort of true, I guess. I never play online, yet recently I found a bunch of Assassin's Creed videos which are earned through multiplayer... Also there's a whole different experience playing online to on your own. I don't think he's confirming that always-online will be a thing in the future, he's commenting on it's status today...

Just my interpretation.

But he was questioned about always-online. Not online multiplayer. Two different things.

Like Tornado said, sometimes they are not even allowed to hint, and knowing Microsoft he probably can't. My initial problem was that you were saying (and it's probably that you were just going from what Eurogamer said) that he confirmed the always online feature when he didn't.

I am not just going from what Eurogamer said. There were previous rumors and controversies leading to always-online.

Even as insulting to consumer as it is to belittle the foreign (read: the entire rest of the world outside the USA) market, it's worrying enough that even within the US with top-level broadband and super-reliable internet service always-on schemes STILL crash and burn because you not only need consistently reliable local hardware, but also consistently reliable hardware in the basement of the company owning the servers.

Oh, and if you want to play the game you paid full price for ten years in the future, that company has to be willing to keep paying for those servers indefinitely. Which is already failing to happen with server-access demanding games of yesterday.

Again, rumors and controversies are not facts. That's the same logic people had when there were rumors about Wii U and PS4 that later turned out to be false.

As I've said earlier in this topic, companies have little to no regard for the preservation of gaming works. As an old poem says, "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" And yet said works have all but faded away into the mists of time, never to be seen again.

It mentions people only getting half the "[experience]" as though the online part of games are something this person feels some people are missing. Multiplayer is only one of them, I just mentioned that as an example. Perhaps the most obvious one.

I would interpret this as someone saying always online just means people are encouraged to use online services. I'm not agreeing with him but I feel this is part of what he's trying to say.

I don't think it's anywhere near confirming the existence of always-online, however. He's merely stating his opinion. That was my point.

>Developer who happens to have next xbox console dev kit gives loose opinion about it.
>GLOOM AND DOOM SPECIAL REPORT: NEXT GENERATION XBOX ALWAYS ONLINE RUMORS CONFIRMED BY DEVELOPER!

Fucking stupid how starved for news we are that were taking opinions as fact now. just counting the days until E3 and when the console will get revealed (if not sooner) and this whole mess will be cleaned up.

except I don't think anyone where is taking his opinion as fact....? And nobody is overreacting like that.

I've learned - just wait until the Officials have announced the console in a showcase or something and don't read online "rumours" or pre-existing articles about the subject before hand. That clears up all the rumour mills and confusion.

I agree. Overreactions and gratutitous swearing is completely unnecessary.

Thank you for demonstrating it so we'll know what it looks like.

Don't mock me.

I wasn't over reacting, just thats how the article is coming off to me. its overblowing someone's loose opinion of the console so far, and then taking that opinion and trying to cement it as fact. it is stupid what we, the internet, is coming up with when were soo starved for information about this new console.

Like all pre-console release bull it will all be quickly forgotten once the console reveals itself.

Just to add what to what Jaime said here

"I've actually heard from, by the way not one or two people, several people who've said, 'based on what I've seen, Sony is going to blow them away.' Based on what you've seen? You've seen nothing. What are you talking about? You've seen literally nothing from Microsoft."
