"Unstoppable"

Well, that might be because SEGA's shoving out like 16 games a year.

They haven't shoved out that many games this year or last year. People are begging for Sega to announce a new game now.

That was true until 2012.

Well, Sonic Dash, Sonic Racing 3DS, Sonic 1 and 2 mobile re-releases. That's four games this year, at least.

ASRT 3DS was intented to be released at the same time as other versions, and counting it as a separate release is like counting any multiplatform game twice. S1 and S2 are already on mobile devices, they're just being significantly upgraded. So that leaves us with Dash. Yes it's a new game, but it's also far from more mainstream titles. Take a look at 2007:

Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii) - 2007

Sonic Rush Adventure (DS) - 2007

Sonic Rivals 2 (PSP) - 2007

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) - 2007

Is that really comparable Sonic 1 and 2 updates, a delayed multiplatform game and a free to play mobile game?

I think a lot of people forgot that Ep 2 even came out last year including myself.

That's mainly because, at the end of the day, it's really not all that remarkable; it's basically just a "more" traditional spinoff title.

I'm serious. But it seems like a hit a soft spot. I'm sorry.

I wouldn't call it a soft spot as much as I'd call it completely wrong reasoning.

We know there will be a box product and and a new version of Sonic 1 for IOS and Android. That is enough for 2013. I expect the new version of Sonic 2 to be released either very late this year or early 2014.

Other than that, SEGA have been very quiet. Finally stopping leaks? It's about time. I also believe that they are not finished with Sonic 4 just yet. Only time will tell.

I'm okay with how SEGA is handling Sonic nowadays. There's no need to flood the market with a lot of Sonic games, the best way is to focus on a single main one and let other people handle the spin-offs and possible re-releases.

That's always been the case. If I may just quickly draw up the list of 2007 games again...

Sonic and the Secret Rings - Sonic Team

Sonic Rush Adventure - Dimps

Sonic Rivals 2 - Backbone Entertainment

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games - Sega Sports R&D

Note that Sega Sports and Sonic Team are two completely separate teams. They've always focused on a single main one and outsourced others to different companies.

With SEGA getting mobile games like Sonic Jump and Sonic Dash into the hands of so many, I hope they capitalize on that reach when the release of the next boxed game approaches. I'm no fan of ads in games I'm playing, but it would be a major missed opportunity not to try to use those free games to promote the retail games.

Hm, I guess that's true (and that's a good thing). I'm totally fine with the absence of portable titles though.

The absense of original handheld titles really saddens me, especially since we've been stuck with watered down ports for quite some time. You'd think that with how well even those ports sell, they'd come along to give their fans on handhelds more of a unique and fun experience with a game exclusive to 3DS and/or Vita at some point. Yet 2007 was the last time we got anything like that

Well Generations aside, the handheld ports are pretty damn good. Everyone basically loved Colors DS from what I remember.

Worse than either of Rush games IMO.

Generations 3DS had some exclusive content, but I hear it was more like a direct remake rather than the re-imagining of old levels like the PC and console versions. I suppose what you guys with handhelds want is a new game made specifically for the handhelds, like the original Sonic 1 and 2 GG versions?

Colors DS's missions were so damn frustrating...

Since most critics seem to think that developers will be doing cross-gen games with all major titles for a year, do any of you think that the new Sonic game will be doing this, or just stay seventh gen and WiiU?

Colours DS was.. mediocre, the Rush games were far better. Generations could have been cool if it wasn't so tiny.

But really, I just miss when Dimps were good. The Advance and Rush games weren't perfect, but now we don't have different handheld Sonics at all and they introduced some great characters and ideas.
