Why does/did SEGA hate Sonic SatAM?

So from what I've heard, SEGA never took too kindly to Sonic SatAM here in the U.S., especially the prototype of the game in development by Sega Technical Institute (STI).

Does anyone have any information as to why exactly that was/still is?

I don’t think it was that popular either at the time.  I think the combination of a lot of ABC stations pre-empting the show plus the intense competition of TMNT and Power Rangers on other stations did that show in. SEGA saw the performance  and maybe wanted to disassociate?

Sega doesn't care about anything with regards to Sonic that's older than about 4 years from the present day on a rolling timeline. That SatAM was a wholly-SoA production from 30 years ago only adds to the "why should they" aspect of the situation.

With regards to the cancelled SatAM game, it probably should be taken into account how much S.T.I. teetered between being "actually viable major development studio for the company" and "pseudo training hub for new American developers" and "constantly hemorrhaging talent" until it was finally shut down and how that would factor in to any products that they pitched to have developed. It was a horrendously poorly-managed studio for most of its life as it pertained to its place in Sega's corporate hierarchy.

I agree with @Wraithabout how SEGA doesn't really hate SATAM, but more like they had no involvement with it.  So, they have no idea about what was going on with that show or what made that show beloved in the Sonic community.  Also, by the time the Sonic Adventure games came out, SEGA had started creating their own continuity for the franchise and anything prior to Sonic Adventure or anything that wasn't made by them before Sonic Adventure, wasn't relevant anymore to them.

Everyone needs to understand that SatAM and AoStH were created from Sega of America collaborating with DiC. Aside from old members of Sonic Team did liked Sally, Bunnie and the others, Sega of Japan as a whole didn't give a damn about the shows because they were American-made, from what I heard. Not to mention this was during the time where there were little to no proper communication, and egos going at each other between the branches that resulted issues with Sega Saturn's US debut, the 32X failure and Sonic X-treme's disastrous development behind the scenes within STI.

Pretty much spot on there, Sega Japan and Sega America were pretty much two seperate enteties at this point with little running back and forth between them

Hate is a strong word. It’s more likely that they just don’t want to associate with anything that was created before SEGA decided on a more consistent continuity for Sonic.

Not to mention that SatAM was a SEGA of America project; SEGA’s American and Japanese branches were constantly butting heads back then, so it’s not surprising that the latter isn’t too fond of it.
