Impromptu Slingerland’s Corner - Black Knight Edition

Announcement   Monday, July 21st, 2008; 12:30 pm by Brad Flick   RSS Feed

You, Sunday evening.

It is times like these that I wish SSR did not crash and I could have a talk show to duke it out in. Let’s begin…

I have been a damn good blogger on this front page. There has been numerous times, at least once a day, I have fulfilled your needs for “Sonic News” and there have been even little zingers at the end of those articles too. However, it is NOW that the masses have a problem with me.

Recently, I sent all you cry-babies into a tizzy with the last thing I posted here on the front page. That spawned numerous spiteful messages to Svend and I. I laughed so hard, I ran to Svend and then we both shared a laugh. Then, the end result was Svend’s last two posts to put you into perspective on who we are here at TSS. That is not to say that you guys should all just up and leave, because we are not professionals with beards of Wolf Blitzer proportions, but rather, you should take a chill pill. The last two news posts will definitely elaborate on that further.

Anyway, time for the reason I am even posting in response to this asinine reaction is the following e-mail. It’s from an anonymous user, who chose to remain anonymous, because his anonymity will prevent him from getting absolutely hammered by me. In this gem of hate mail, he writes:

singerland,

I WAS ONE OF UR BIGGEST FANS!!!! your post on sonic &the black night at tss wasnt cool at all. i cant beleve u still call urself a sonic fan and u dont speak for me!!!!

Haha…good stuff, good stuff. Nice missing “L,” by the way. In response, I’d direct your attention to this post for the easy way out of responding, but you’ll get one that the entire public can read it. Here’s my answer:First off, people have taken offense to the fact that Svend added a little note at the end of the article that said, “Dear SEGA…NO…Sincerely, Everyone,” in that I am not really speaking for everyone and just a select few people. Well, I understand and frankly, I couldn’t care less. However, I am at the least representing a portion of this community who feels jaded by the company who is responsible for one of our biggest pastimes.

Secondly, I am not a “4chan troll,” as some hate letters put it. If I was, I wouldn’t have a show on SegaSonic Radio, have a segment on the most watched Sonic podcast, or be blogging on TSS’ front page. Trolls don’t get that treatment. That argument is about as effective as…

a) For the Brits: …kicking a beach ball from half field in an attempt to score in the waining seconds of the EURO cup.

b) For the Americans: …trying to throw a football made of socks at a wide receiver 60 yards down field.

Next, I am subordinate to one man, Svend (Dreadknux). He asked me to do this volunteer job. He reviews and publishes my articles. It is not up to you to tell me how I respond or write anything. In fact, why should I even listen to a bunch of rabid fanboys when they cannot even follow the rules of the TSS forum? I was in heated discussions in the past few days and not once did I flame a person. I was called a “bitch” about five times. Flaming is against the rules. Not to mention, there is still a discussion on which voice actor is better floating at the top of the Sonic the Hedgehog forum, which is against the rules. Your two cents on what is “best for” TSS or Sonic is a futile attempt at changing something beyond your control. All your two cents gets you is a one-way ticket to “Svend-Doesn’t-Give-A-Shit-Ville, UK.” Oh, you don’t know where that is? Well, it is a small, dirt-poor village in the northern part of Northumberland.

I am not an employee of SEGA. I am not a paid employee of any site. I do not bow to any whim. If you draw a line for me, I will step over it. If you make the rules, then I will break them. Why? You are not my boss and you do not have the authority to tell me otherwise. If I was out of line, one person could have taken me out and he did not. Looks like he thought it was funny, which is what you should have thought as well. Or, you could have brushed it off and said, “Hmm, I guess that’s how the other side of the fence thinks. Interesting.”

At any rate, how could you not think it was funny? I mean, you find enjoyment in me making fun of others on the most watched Sonic podcast on the internet, The Sonic Show. Oh, wait, now I understand. Since I’m offending you now, it’s no longer funny. I see how that works. I guess saying “fuck” five times in an episode is not pushing it and putting the word “fuck” in one blog tag is the end of the Sonic online civilization. Makes perfect sense.

Finally, I will ask you this question: Is this really something that you should be defending? Thus far, this notion of Sonic with a sword has been panned by the internet, with my favorite article is Kotaku’s with its “sad face” and over the top sarcasm. “Wait, Slingerland! They are paid journalists! They’re not allowed to have any fun! GO GET THEM SONIC FANBASE! ATTACK! CHARGE WITHOUT THOUGHT!”

“Wait, Slingerland, there’s more! What about the 1UP article you posted earlier! They hated on Sonic, too! Should we get them?!”  NO. They can say what they want to say, because it is their site. Plus, you have to admit that some of it connects with some of you “true fans.”

So, in conclusion, if you’re not down with that, then I’ve got two words for ya!

…no…not that (though I’d love for it to be)…it’s more along the lines…of…uuhhhh…

Get out.
