Same here, I don’t get the fans obsessions with wanting remade or re-released older games all the time. What’s wrong with having something new? Would you all prefer it if Sonic was like Mario and it rarely changed things up? I know I wouldn’t…

Well even in the Sonic-verse, he’s one of the only ones. Look at other hedgehogs for example, namely Shadow and Silver. Then there’s Tails, Vector, Espio, Big the list goes on. It does just seem odd, especially, again, if you look at the other hedgehogs. It’s literally only Sonic and Amy that are like it (and chances are, Amy shaved hers to imitate Sonic).

I, personally, never liked the tan arms, I always thought they looked silly, like he was wearing a blue, sleeveless onesie with the front undone.

No tape, no scarf, different shoes, modern Sonic has had long legs sometimes (Sonic 06 for example) and the only extra quill is at the bottom of his hair, with the back of his ear shown above the hair that might be mistaken for one. Either way, he doesn’t have those small, spiky ones that show up in between each quill in the Boom design. Like I said, there were classic Sonic art designs that showed him with blue arms, even on the boxes of old cartoon dvds.

Either way, does it really cross you so much that the word “Boom” isn’t in the article’s title?

Not really… Old box arts for most all 8 and 16 bit games looked nothing like anything in the games aside from correct colours and vaguely resemblant shapes… Look at Alex Kidd for another example.

I’m talking about concept art anyway, not final art.

Actually, now I look closer, he only has one (maybe two, can’t see the other side) extra quill anyway…. They’re just in an obviously rushed, sketchy style that’s been cleaned up purely for display purposes as is often the norm with game concept art.

Western devs and even artists really seem to have huge sticks up their asses about Sonic’s arms not being blue, we see it in Boom, this piece of concept art and even in heaps of fanarts. It might stem from the fact that Sonic not having fur colored arms is unique among cartoon animals, look at Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Felix the Cat and Crash Bandicoot for examples, the artist will infer to this is a error that must be corrected.
