No Summer of Sonic for 2015

In a move which confirms what many suspected, the Summer of Sonic Team have released a statement on their official Facebook page confirming that there will not be an event for this year. However, they do not rule out a return in the future.

Statement is as follows.

We’ve had a lot of questions and lovely messages from fans about this, and so we don’t want to give the wrong impression by not saying anything. So just to clear up what you might have heard, there are no plans for a Summer of Sonic event this year.

The whole team would love to host a show for you again soon, and if the stars align in the future we will shout it from the rooftops.

Thanks again for all of your wonderful support.

So, sad news, but they don’t rule out that it won’t ever be back, so who knows, the future may still hold an event. Anyone got a time stone so we can go right now?

As Doctor Eggman once said:

-No modern Sonic.
-No E3 Sonic.
-No Summer of Sonic.
-No Sega Shorts.

But we get plenty of Boom! And the Penders-provoked retcon in the comics. And the fanbase and its mods are as jolly and reasonable as ever.

What a swell year to be a Sonic fan 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 (the blissful expressions on their faces).

I swear, 2016 better be the best year for gaming yet, like 1998:

-Yokai Watch > Pokemon Red & Blue
-Yooka-Laylee > Banjo-Kazooie
-Mighty No. 9 > Megaman Legends and Megaman & Bass
-Anything Modern Sonic/the Sonic movie (The Wizard-style game reveal?) > Sonic Adventure Limited
-New Legend of Zelda game > Ocarina of Time
-Kung Fu Panda 3 (just decided to throw that in there)

In my personal opinion, I believe Pokemon X and Y are great enough to carry the entire sixth generation. Besides that, I agree that 2016, it being the 25th anniversary for Sonic, should really kick some ass! 😀

Well sure, if you like only 72 new Pokemon, Mega Evolutions that condemn some pokemon from ever getting real evolutions, and freemium cash baits/disable all game exploits like Shuffle, Rumble World, and possibly Super Mystery Dungeon. And don’t get me started with the anime, we’ll be here all night.

Oh and my bad, Mighty No. 9 happens this year. I never really followed up with it because I’m not the big a Megaman fan (having recently played Megaman in 2009 and sticking with the classic series up to Megaman 7 currently). I just empathize with the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3 (and several other plannned games) because it gave a grim foreshadowing of anothing blue video game mascot of the four giants, and the fact that Capcom’s move was pretty douchey (and Megaman was purely innocent, since he didn’t have anything as bad as 2006 and Boom attached to his name).

Before you say anything, I am NOT here to heckle you, as per agreement. I am actually here to aid you with some rumors you may find enlightening. Give it a few weeks, and we’ll be back at each throats in no time.

To clarify, Mighty No. 9 is scheduled to arrive This September, but given how the game has been delayed numerous times and the countless stories backers have been hearing about the spotty development cycle and mismanagement of Kickstarter money, I’m doubting it will make it’s official release date.

It’s a good thing you are NOT a MM fan, because even if the games DOES make it’s release date, those suckers may experience their first taste of a Sonic-style disappointment. There is NO way this game lives up to the hype it generated and said hype has been getting lower and lower with every new piece of development info given. More people are excited over Bloodstained (Koji Igarashi’s Castlevania tribute) then M.09 these days.

And for once, I’m GLAD you mentioned your beef with Sonic Boom. Because you wanna know why Kenji Inafune is taking his sweet time to develop his game? Take a guess, really.

Because he was busy trying to raise money to fund development for a French developed, comedic CGI cartoon about Mighty No. 9!! He doesn’t even have the bloody game and he wanted to do a Sonic Boom of his own!!! It would be so hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic…..fuck it, I’ll laugh anyway.

So Sakurai is the only one giving Megaman any real justice.

But if what you say is true, then each of the VG Four now have scrappy counterparts:

          -Boom Sonic > Sonic
          -Mighty No. 9 > Megaman
          -Pacster (PATGA) > Pac-man (pre-“reboot”)
          -Dr. Mario > Mario

Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah…..WOAH!

Say what you want about the other three, but DO NOT mock Dr. Mario. He is in his lab, working tiredlessly in the long, lonely nights to destroy THAT deadly of all diseases – the common cold That man is a damn hero, and you WILL respect him.

Feel free to hate the movie version all you want, though. Wait, no, Bob Hoskins was a pretty good actor! Just hate the movie in general.

I don’t respect clones that get in SSB, while others can’t get in. I respected him in Project M, but not this time. Not while Roy and the Ice Climbers are absent.

          Dr. Mario = Mario.

Technically, Mario has no dork age counterpart, since his series hasn’t gone through enough negative changes or received enough inactivity. Mario is pretty much “perfect”, while Sonic scared enough people with the end of the Dreamcast, Sonic 2006, and Lost World, Megaman was neglected and canned by Capcom, and Pac-man is barely notable outside of his first ever game.

However, SSB is held to high standards, as only so many can make it in as playable, and no one likes to see their favorite character, a newcomber with potential, or a veteran lose their roster spot to a clone, especially when that clone is the exact same character twice, with the same moveset (unlike Zero Suit Samus, unless this ZG Samus of SSB4 hails from Other M, which hardcore fans disown from the official Metroid chronology).

I can understand your problems with the games, but I actually think the anime has been on a streak of brilliance recently.

You mean when Ash lost to that joker Cameron, when Team Rocket was reduced back to losers, the many times Clemont was a prude to Bonnie, or how Ash released Goodra, the only fully-evolved Dragon-type pokemon he ever owned, costing him the Kalos League in the future? And how Serena is just a 2.0 of May, and her little unachievable Pokemon Showcase/Kalos Queen goal?

          @Johnny2071
I have no legitimate opinion on Black and White because I didn’t watch it at all, but I have heard it was very disappointing. From the little I have seen of it, I agree that it looks like a total deconstruction of Ash and I can understand why it would leave a bad taste in your mouth, but that’s where XY comes in. I believe that XY is where the anime really picked up quality again. 1st off, Team Rocket have been losers since day one. They never really were meant to be taken all that seriously. At least now they feel more part of the family and not just stale “bad guy” characters. Plus I actually think they are pretty funny… when they are not being intrusive and annoying. Ehh… I guess it goes both ways with team rocket, but that recent Jesse based episode give me hope. Okay, I looked up what “prude” meant because I wasn’t aware, and I will very confidently state that Clemont and the word “prude” have no relation whatsoever. If you by chance are referring to the marriage gag… I’m pretty sure Clemont is simply trying to be respectful and well-mannered, but he can’t do that when Bonnie is pulling Brocks all the time. If anything can be stated about Clemont and Bonnie, it is that they show a much better sibling relationship than Max and May and the marriage gag is a funny quirk that was thrown in there. Plus, at the end of the day, the marriage gag is meant to be a joke and it really isn’t worth the criticism. Serena is not a 2.0 of May for sure. Her character has much more insight what with her emotionally tearing herself apart which caused her to re-image herself and all that. Mix that with the feelings towards Ash, the ryhorn racing, and the fact that she took more than the usual time for her to actually figure out what she wanted to even do in life besides follow Ash and I’d say we have a very interesting character on our hands. However, isn’t it inevitable to have a 2.0 at this point? Thee series has been going for quite a while. Also, isn’t 2.0 a BETTER version of 1.0? Ash has a Goodra? Gave it away?! ACK! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! … … … Yes, I watch the dub every Saturday morning on CN and we haven’t gotten there yet so… I’ll pretend I didn’t read that. HOWEVER, this just proves further Ash’s care towards his Pokemon, his selflessness/generosity, his great sense of doing what is right, and his development as a person and character. Last but not least, this in no way confirms a loss at the Kalos League. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Ash is more competent in the series than ever before, and if you can’t see that then I encourage you to continue watching. The series XY is setting the bar at new heights in nearly all categories, and I think it’d be a shame if you missed it.

This is the second year with no Summer of Sonic?! If we get anymore bad news I’m gonna cry, and then once I’m done crying I’m going down to Sega Headquarters and slap those damn corporate money changers in the face for making bad business decisions with Sonic!
I know Summer of Sonic and Sega themselves are separate from each other but hey, Fight the Power!

This wouldn’t be such bad news if the UK didn’t already suffer from a severe lack of big gaming or game-related events compared to America. ;_;
