It’s time for another episode of The Sonic Show. This time around, we hit the road and visit SEGA of America in San Francisco, California for their second annual community event. We’ll play some PSP, talk to the employees at SOA and drop dimes on Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. Joining me on this trip is none other than America’s favorite doppleganger, Ben Kalough, SEGA of Antarctica’s best PR man.
For the Sonic 4 feedback session, I cut down the 30 minutes into about 10.There are moments whereI started to speak and cut the camera, because I didn’t feel likerolling on what I was saying for those initial discussions about physicsand level design.I spoke at length and since I gesticulate a lot, itwould have been a mess.I wanted to focus on making a good, concise point instead of worrying about filming. As a substitute, I’ve cut in abridged versionsof what I said to Aaron and Ken, set to the Sonic 3 invincibility theme.
Note: they wanted feedback and we gave it to them professionally.Anybody who says, “oh my god complaiiiiniiiiing” needs a realitycheck. Any comments like this one will be deleted and you will be banned. I don’t even want to deal with the Sonic Defense Force today (or ever, really). Sonic 4: Episode 1 has major problems, so we aired them to make Episode 2 better. Sonic 4: Good Edition.
Enjoy the video and for a more detailed report of the event, I wrote one up this past Sunday. Feel free to ask questions about the event and I will be more than happy to answer them for you. Thanks again to all of the SOA employees and to all the guests who were featured in the video. I had an absolute blast this past weekend and I think it shows!
Awesome thanks for making the video!
MIND-BLOWING… there’s a Ben Kalough AND a Ken Balough at SOA. Cosssssmic.
Anyway, I can’t wait to play Episode 1… I won’t get home to my PS3 until May! Who knows, maybe it will have been patched by then…
It’s not getting patched.Ever.
Would like to see that free riders figure the guy won at the end 😮
Oh my God, complaiiiiiiiiiiiining!
4 doesn’t need to be patched IMO. If they do, well more power to them. But I still like how 4 plays for me right now.
lolfullhouse
Awesome video. Wish there were more events like that.
We need more ariens.
Well presented, well edited as if it was done by a pro. A great watch.
If you read this btw. Is sega going to have their own video in the future. I noticed that you were filming most of the time while I read from impressions that you talked quite a bit. Maybe that may have been the reason you didn’t catch yourself that much in your own film.
So basically, are we going to see you more in other videos if they exist?
Thanks
The guy who made that Knuckles comment is a friggin’ legend.
Oh, FTA, I know. The best part is that he’s wearing that red leather coat and has dreads, hahaha.
Great video, and thanks for putting it up. Nice to have some memories made available to view at any time like that 😛
@BlastedPinata It was a Sonic Riders figure of the green bird guy.
Love how it has Full House music in the beginning since it was in San Francisco and this event was. xD
Haha, that was awesome.
Good video brad =)
I see, this is really important for sega this feedback.
Sonic 4 Episode 1 have big problems yes, but I fell , sonic 4 episode 1 start burn the sonic cycle
Different Idea,no friends, for me is a good since adventure 1/2.
About sonic colors, this is awesome 3D since since adventure 1/2 too.
I see sega now go in “right way”.
Thanks
Hey FTA, have you seen Ben Kalough’s review of Sonic 4?
@FTA
Yes, he should be a meme any moment now…
Haha, that last guy had me laughing so damn hard 😀
Great video Brad
I just hope Sega actually uses the feedback productively and that they dont push it to the side.
that last guys joke was so funny haha
so in other words it’s gonna be a while before we See Sonic the hedgehog 4 Episode 2? :'(
Haha that was rather amusing good sir
Now that’s something that should be happening more often than not.
The fact that this sort of event happened with the people involved…. excellent. My favorite part was when Sammybeany and Brad were hammering away at the glaring ineptitude in the game and all it’s in game hypocrisy. I hadn’t realized half the things that they both brought up (the same synth tone used for different notes, the hypocrisy of having a multi-tiered level but have them most end over a bottomless pit) and when they did, I couldn’t help but agree with them. These are the people who should be providing Sega with the feedback they need and the kind Sonic deserves. Without hard, passionate honesty like that, the franchise as a whole is screwed. Well done guys!
I’ve been providing “hard, passionate honesty” on this site for years. However, according to the majority of commenters here, you can’t say anything bad about Sonic or else you’re not a true fan, even when you know what you’re talking about. It doesn’t matter.“Sonic’s infallible.”People need to get out of dreamland if they want this franchise to get any better. It’s not like the people criticizing the games want Sonic to fail. They’re criticizing it because they want it to be better the next time, which is a point that most people overlook.Without those passionate, honest critiques, we don’t get Sonic 4 or a 3D Sonic game with no senseless gimmicks in Colors.
Contrary to all of those other times, this video is the first instance where nobody is telling me to eat dicks or calling me one of the many uninformed words they like to use (i.e. “unpleaseable,” “retrofag,” etc).I have yet to delete a single incendiary comment.Maybe it was seeing how I conduct myself in person and people are finally realizing that you can criticize in a calm manner.Maybe it was seeing the SoA guys agree with us.I don’t know and I don’t care.I like the peace and quiet.
Today was a good day.
Wouldn’t read too deeply into it dude haha. Those who are misinformed eventually figure out the truth. Only thing that matters is you stayed true. Keep punching high for the good guys.
Brad, you fucking hit home my man. Really impressed with what was said at the feedback session and I hope SEGA make good use of what was discussed. You picked up on some great points; my favourite being the fact that all the stages seem to be made entirely out of quarter loops.
Looks like you all had allot of fun, wonder how those sandwiches tasted like?
Anyhow, those was some nice criticism there, I do agree. The physics are such a chore with the U-parts in levels, instead of giving more momentum, you only lose it. Im sure the criticism will be taken for Ep2, or else the whole meeting would of been some type of publicity stunt.
Looks like you guys had a blast, that whiteboard was filled with ideas =D
Hey brad, during the session did anyone ask why you could still get the barrier power-up as supersonic even though your already invincible? lol
*gasp* That dude in the red jacket IS Knuckles!! 😀
Though, about the Sonic characters not talking… I hope they’re only referring to the 2D gameplay games like Sonic 4. ^^; I mean, I find it entertaining to see the hedgehog’s behavior. lol They should just add everything to please everyone and then make it optional so that no one is forced to do anything but have everything available to them whoever they are. XD ahhh… if only. ^^ lol
There is any Sega of Antartica? It is a joke?
There is any Sega of Antartica? It is a joke?
Really appreciate the feedback you guys gave to SEGA. For as many fundamental problems with Sonic 4 as there are, it’s nice to know I wouldn’t have added anything to this discussion. Well done.
Whether or not they can actually realize their mistakes is still yet to be seen, because hearing them defend the physics as simply “different” is troubling.
