Happy Birthday, Dreamcast!

Eleven years ago on September 9th, 1999, the Dreamcast hit the market in North America (the 14th in Europe).  The system launched with some great titles and pumped out classics like Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Rez, Wetrix, PowerStone and manyothers. Although it didn’t do to well commercially and eventually leftthe market when some heavy competition appeared on the scene, theDreamcast nevertheless garnered a rabid cult -like following. Despiteits failure on the commercial front, the system still lives on thanksto the tireless efforts of homebrew creators and fans, giving extendedlife to an otherwise dead system.

Now, the Dreamcast will be brought back to life through XBOX Live and PlayStation Network, allowing for more widespread appreciation for an underrated console.

You were the best, Dreamcast.  Will you guys be playin’ some Dreamcast today?

Happy Birthday Dreamcast! 😀 You forgot to mention PSN, where the Dreamcast games are also releasing :p *shot for being a smarty pants* Anyway, time to party!! Who’s got booze?

Happy 11, Ol’ Swirly. *salute!*

O.O!

Where did you get that Sonic Dreamcast??

And Happy 11th Birthday, Dreamcast! It doesn’t seem like its been 11 years, hasn’t it? I was only 15 when this system came out and I still have it and all the games I brought for it.

Yes! Already started on Soul Reaver, played some Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and took Trizeal for a spin :D. A shame I don’t have Starlancer with me.

Ah the Dreamcast.
Wearer of the title of the most underrated console, which could do stuff Nintendo can’t even do today.
I salute before your awesomeness and have high anticipation for your re-releases.
Oh and happy birthday Sonic 4, your announcement was 1 year ago.

Having recently bought a fabulously huge PC monitor to go with my Dreamcast’s VGA Box, I’ve been playing, re-playing, and re-re-playing some of my most treasured Dreamcast classics through the shockingly clear wonders of a progressive scan display – believe me when I say that you haven’t experienced Jet Set Radio’s full and pure beauty until you’ve played it in VGA mode. It’s just a shame that I don’t have Shenmue, Soul Calibur, or Sega Rally 2, as those gems would be the icing atop the wondrous cake that is my mammoth (and mostly pirated) Dreamcast collection!

Happy Birthday Dreamcast! I’ll never forget playing Sonic Adventure 1 with my brothers, the first time I went through Emerald Hill and beating the Egg Viper… gah, I think I’ll replay Sonic Adventure in memory ( since my SA2 disc broke a couple of years back ;___; )

^ Emerald Coast… not Emerald Hill… I’m more nostalgic than I thought @__@

Been playing my dreamcast for awhile today. C:Almost had it for ten lush years with no problems.

I was going to play my Dreamcast today but I’m so depressed that Mike Portnoy quit Dream Theater that I’m just not sure…

one thing i don’t like about myself: is the fact i didn’t buy one of these things, and it was out of print once I started really getting interested in it.:(

I still can’t decide whether I want to get a Dreamcast, PS2 Slim (because the divvys at Sony won’t release an update that lets you play P2 games on the PS3 Slim), or the new Xbox 360.

If only I had a DC..I shamelassly bought a PS1 since it was everywhere and I lost the chance to play the Adventure series.
I’m just glad they will be available on XBLA now so I can finally play them, yay!

This commercial was the BOMB! …And also coincidentally the first time I was exposed to Sonic.

It strikes me as odd that even now, in an age of advanced motion-sensing technology and virtually limitless backwards compatibility, that the humble Dreamcast continues to batter and better even the most world-renowned market leaders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrdfTRlUtvU

Dreamcast was seriously amazing for its time.A system that went online, had extended gameplay on the memory card and extra content when you put the games in your computer! That is pure genious.SEGA is the best, I wish they still made consoles, because they were very creative and fun, always coming up with fresh new ideas, unlike some modern companies who just copy Nintendo.

Truly Monumental/ excellent Dreamcast games:
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Space Channel 5
Crazy Taxi
Jet Set Radio
and of course Sonic Adventure 1 and 2

@Waaurufu
LMAO! I remember that Sonic Adventure ad! SEGA used to make the best videogame commericals back then.

Don’t own a Dreamcast, but for Nosalgia Purposes(And because I’m a crazed Blue Blur Fan), I plan to buy one.

@Edge
Oh buddy, I feel your pain…

Wow, that means I have known about Sonic 4 for a whole year now. COME OUT ALREADY!

Sadly, I dont have a dreamcast, instead I’ve made a pic of Mr. Driller…one of the first games I played for the dreamcast.

Oh shit yes.
Time to crank up some Soul Caliber =D
..or start Shenmue like I said I would 4 months ago =/

I DIDN’T buy DC , but l have some experience by playing DC games in emulators! DC games is very cool! Happy birthday DC!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREAMCAST

but one thing I don’t get is what about the Wii?
I can just imagine playing Jet set radio

I would love to play on the dreamcast……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….If I had one. Is there anywhere I can get one

That’s IF i had one

@FamilyGAMEGuy8 theres allways ebay and craigslist.

Considering I was always a huge sonic fan, i initially got a dreamcast when it was first realeased. Sonic Adventure 2, in my opinion, is still the best storyline of a sonic game to date. But I eventually made the dumb decision to sell my dreamcast and had never regretting selling a system so much. However, about a month ago i found one at a pawn shop with phantasy star online for $20. I hadn’t been that excited in a long time, and i immediately ordered a game that seems to not be getting any love here yet.

Sonic Shuffle!

Although it was clearly not an original idea, the gameplay was so much more strategic than that of the mario party series and actually had fun stories and mini games!

tell me somewhere else loved Sonic Shuffle to the extent that i did/do?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREAMCAST! MY 1ST GAMES CONSOLE! I will never EVER forget when I got it with Sonic Adventure. My, I was SOOO excited! It just was a ultimate game! And now, I get to play Sonic Adventure on Xbox! Ahh, Thank you SEGA for making my life so much better! XD

Regrettably, I never own a Dreamcast, but one of my uncle’s friend kindly let me play his, no doubt it was an awesome experience to play Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi.

Happy Belated 11th Birthday, Dreamcast.

Whoa, my sis b-day’s the next day..

Tanjoobi Omedetto Dreamcast!
