SEGA Digital (formerly SEGA of America) and GameSpot should really get a room. Or something. I digress.
SEGA announced that it wasn’t going to be at Comic Con 2010 this year, but Ken Balough was there to give a surprise, sensual massage to GameSpot by giving them another exclusive demonstration of the upcoming retro-reboot, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. Sneaky Ken appeared in the GameSpot love shack yesterday to talk about Sonic 4 and play through Splash Hill Zone once again. Apparently, there have been subtle improvements made to the game. Can you spot them? Also, do you think that there are enough springs?
The 9-minute Q&A session and demo takes us through Splash Hill in its entirety and can be viewed at the video below or at GameSpot’s website.

Sonic 4! Totally!
Woo more E3 Demo gameplay!
I really want one of those shirts…
I think it looks good but even from this first level I see bad enemy and obstacle placement; the motorbug on the slopes for example; why is it postioned on a running slope? It gives ill time for response and if this is true for the rest of the game then it could become a trial and error fluff fest. In the old games their was a clear devision between runnning and platforming/enemy combat. This isn’t simply about paying homage but about good gameplay mechanics.
Still I’ll wait for the reviews and give the game a test before strong opinions are thrown out.
That’s still the E3 build. No changes there yet.
I still like the look of this game.
Anything new with the contest, bronik?
@ ProjectZuel
Oh come on Sonic 2 had worse badnik placement. (lookin at you metropolis and oil ocean)
Debug mode? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?
The person who was playing that demo was terrible at it. It felt awkward watching him play. But it was still good.
supersonic is back
They should fix his walking animation to where he throws his arms forwards as hes walking, like the old ones. I don’t like how they just dangle to the side.
That pit at 3.50 looks like it could cause a few problems lol
All sounds very exciting =)
Man now I really really cant wait!!! The gameplay reboot is great but it looks the same as the E3 demo.
The sunflowers rotate when he walks under them. Particularly noticeable when he passes the sign post at the end. I don’t remember if that was there before or not.
Hopefully they don’t focus too much on details like that and instead focus more on gameplay as a whole…
can you play with the nunchuk
Eh? “Back in the Genesis days, Jun could only compose using 8 notes.” I don’t think that’s right…
I could feel the love between those two XD
I think it does look better, more tighter than last time.
Splash hill?. again.
WTF.
That demo is getting old .. so old we should have it as a 360 download by now <- *hint hint*
Comic-con just wrapped up, they're thinking about moving to a bigger location in 2012
We do luv u gamespot! <3
I’m wondering if there will be cutscenes? Hm…
@ SonicSilverSS
No dialogue in this game.
If there are cutscenes, then Sonic 3 & Knuckles style.
Can’t wait…but as Jix said, that Splash Hill demo’s getting kinda old. Can we see Sonic on one of the other stages please?
Yeah, I really don’t know what he means by the 8 note comment. I know many songs from Sonic and most of them use more than 8 notes.
SuperSonic hell yeah!!!!
This game looks good, the guy who plays it suck. But this game looks fantastic. I will be getting this game no matter how many people complain about it. Because I think it’s awesome.
Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors are going to be awesome, and I am right to be dang optimistic.
Surpise me, Sonic Team, simply surprise me.
He’s talking about Genesis titles Calypos.
Why is it that whenever we see a prolonged demo of someone playing the game, they always suck?
sonic is still slow
Even if he’s referring to genesis titles, the music for those games wasn’t limited to just 8 notes. The genesis soundcard wasn’t restricted in that way so not quite sure what he meant.
Sonic needs to stay in a ball when he goes up into the air, i wanna be able to hit badnicks with my spin ball form, not be forced to use homing attack..
@Vinny
Completely agree
@Vinny I thought about it before and it has to happen.
Well put, Vinny. The transition from ramp to air looks super awkward to boot.
@rabidkanid
Off topic, but i like your icon!
Raichu is my favorite pokemon.
@Vinny
and everyone else too..
I agree that Sonic looks awkward like that and should stay in a ball.
However I’d rather say I want the choice to use either attack. He should still be able to do a homing attack while in a ball so I don’t see why he doesn’t stay in a ball…
But I’d rather have the choice than to be forced to do one attack or the other because tho I don’t want to be forced to do the homing attack and would like to be able to do the ball attack if I ever wanted to… even if I likely wouldn’t want to. (I don’t see why I would want to lift up and try to bump into it to destroy it when I can stryke it… unless I were goofing off trying to aim at it with luck. lol)
im REALY HAPPY I NEED THAT SHIRT
SONIC 4 IS AWSOME
: (
We need springs! MORE SPRINGS! MORE! MORE!
