Mark Davis, the head of a group of charitable broniks known as “Bonus Stage Marathons,” will be playing a large selection of Sonic games over the weekend of Thursday, July 8th. He wanted to get the word out and I’m more than happy to oblige. The marathon will be accepting donations to the Baltimore Humane Society. From the BHS website:
Since its founding in 1927 by Elsie Seeger Barton, the Humane Society of Baltimore County has provided for the care of suffering and homeless animals. Situated on 365 acres of land held in trust for the Humane Society, it operates an animal shelter, a spay/neuter center, a memorial park, and a wildlife sanctuary. The Humane Society is dependent on donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and income from fundraising events to support animal care operations.
Mark and company have released the list of games that they will be trying to complete over the weekend. They are:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Sonic CD
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Heroes
Shadow the Hedgehog
Sonic 06
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic Advanced 1
Sonic Advanced 2
Sonic Advanced 3
Sonic 1 Game Gear
Sonic 2 Game Gear
Sonic Triple Trouble (Game Gear)
Tails Adventure
Sonic Spinball
TRIPLE TROUBLE 4 LIFE.

That’s a lot of games….
Granted the 16 bit era ones will take about an hour each with the 3D ones only being a little bit longer…….won’t exactly be a big speed run. Still I salute!
Might just give this a watch and a donation even if only a small one due to my current financial situation. That’s a long list of games, will be cool to see them play through them all.
Loading screens alone will take up about an hour or 2 of their time while playing 06 (I love the game to bits but still! It’s the truth!) and they have to beat all 13 stories in Shadow, also it takes about 12 hours to beat Adventure 2, including cutscenes, Not to mention how long Adventure 1 with all of it’s stories and adventure field’s. Also, a weekend is not 4 days, it’s 3 (or if you want to get really technical it’s 2). It’s impossible.
For me, Thursday night is the start of the weekend. Even if I have work on Friday.
That’s just how I roll.
Sounds good,
but when they say “complete” do they mean complete complete? as in all Chaos Emeralds? All Emblems? All Characters? All A-Ranks? as in look, I’m in a 3D Green Hill Zone! Wow, Super Tails has bird powers! Robotnik still has one emerald, my flowers don’t look like pigs, better do as it says and try again. Just wondering.
Good list, only adventures missing are the sonic rush and rivals games, the story book games, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic Blast, Sonic 3D blast, and Sonic Chaos.
I’m not criticizing, just thinking out loud. i don’t think there is any one system that hosts all those games. Gamecube is close if you have the GBA player, but it can’t play 06 or unleashed. Wii is close too except it can’t play the advance games or 06. PS3 is close except the Sonic adventure games and the advance games. i can probably go on like this all night.
Respect to those guys, you really deserve money when playing 06.
shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06?
Hell, they’re not stuffing around
Let’s be realistic. Assumedly BSM are planning to play through the main story of each game once. That probably means one character category in Sonic 3 and & Knuckles and other games with very similar gameplay like Sonic Heroes, but all the characters in the Adventure series and ’06 where there are big differences.
To use SA2 as an example, it’d likely take around 3 hours to complete the three stories – note that this isn’t a speedrun session, in which case it’d be closer to 1:30.
Awesome, I wish them luck!
Sonic 1, 2, 3, knuckles, CD, adventure, adventure 2, heroes, shadow, 2006, and unleashed. Me and my friends did that in 3 days, all the way through
Which version of Unleashed was it?
I don’t get it. o_0 How do they raise their money? Just by playing video games? Can anyone else volunteer, or is it just the guys who are already in this organization?
Sorry if these are dumb questions. I’ve just never heard of these guys, and this seems like an awfully easy way to raise money.
Jumping jeepers, it’ll be a day after my birthday.
Hey This is Sean AKA Fayt from Bonus Stage Marathons Thank you so much for the publicity first of all, secondly to eveyrone who has posted i hope you all come check us out. This is for a good cause and we will all be having fun. I dont know what the other guys have planned but i know im playing shadow the hedgehog and going for the true ending.
@needsemail1: Charity marathons raise funds through viewer donations, which they in turn pass on to the nominated charity.
I haven’t taken part in an event myself, but from what I know the participants are recruited from the group’s own community and/or communities group members are in. That means if you interact with a group there’s a chance of members saying “we’re doing x, they’re good at x…” and joining the dots. How good you have to be at the game depends on the group, but obviously you have to be a lot better than mediocre.
